An experimental investigation is described in which the coefficient of friction for steel-aluminum contact surface has been found. This test was conducted by using a new testing machine on the basis of twist-compression test. A flat plate of aluminum has been placed under pressure between two steel dies. One of the dies (upper die) was capable of rotating while the other (lower die) was stationary and attached to a load cell which has been used for measuring the torque and force on the flat plate. By using a strain bridge data logger the coefficient of friction can be found within 0.75 second intervals. In the tests the normal loads continuously increased and at the same time the upper die rotated. The results show the coefficient of friction of steel-aluminum interface started at an initial value of 0.2 and increased almost to 0.8 in the elastic region and then decreased to the value of 0.6 in the plastic region.
