The problem to ensure security in factories and works and for people employed in them arose after World War II just after the war operations had finished. Burglaries, robberies of properties left by the Germans, assaults on convoys, cashiers, thefts of machines, equipment resources and others resulted in the necessity to set up factory, mail and other guard services. The article, apart from a historical outline, presents the influence of transformations in Poland in 1989 - 2000 on the state of security in the country and the increase of crime and security services functioning in Poland, particularly Specialist Formations for Security.
