The paper presents the framework for modeling the steady-state operation of brushless DC motors. The model uses a weak coupling between the magnetostatic model of the magnetic circuit and a time-periodic circuit model of the inverter drive. It enables determination of the machine characteristics in only a few minutes. The results of computations compare well with measurements carried out on a laboratory motor.
