W artykule omówiono problemy związane z naprawami wad odlewniczych. Przeanalizowano możliwości naprawy odlewów metodami spawalniczymi. Opisano technologię naprawy przez napawanie wlewnic wykonanych z żeliwa szarego. Napawanie prowadzono ręcznie elektrodami otulonymi oraz w osłonie gazów metodą MAG. Oceniono mikrostrukturę stref napawanych naprawianych odlewów oraz wyniki pomiarów twardości i rozkład mikrotwardości.

In this paper discusses issues related to the repair of large castings. Analyzed the possibility repair of castings of welding methods. Describes the technology of repair by welding of cast iron ingot molds. Welding with coated electrodes was carried out manually and gas shielded MAG. Rated zones padded structure and performance measurement and distribution of microhardness.

W artykule przedstawiono badania w zakresie nowego materiału inżynierskiego jakim staje się geopolimer. Jest materiałem z którego można tworzyć warstwy ochronne, co prawda posiada dużą zdolność do pochłaniania wilgoci jednak jego skład jest silnie zasadowy i przez to jego nasiąkanie nie wpływa niekorzystnie na chronioną konstrukcję. Badania obejmują wpływ różnych środowisk korozyjnych na zmianę masy badanych próbek w trakcie badania jak również na strukturę powierzchni w skali makroskopowej.

Geopolymer is a material that could form a protective layer on the metal. Geopolymer well as a material absorbing moisture, for example, can be used to control other humidity. Is a material which can easily remove the moisture from the solid material and transport it to the atmosphere. Geopolymer the moisture absorption does not increase its volume. My work contains tables of weights placed in their samples in specific environments. Charts weight change during the study as well as a description and photos of the surface changes. I hope that my work will contribute to increased knowledge about to expand the knowledge of corrosion and its negative impact. It will also help to familiarize yourself with the material that is geopolymer and its properties in different environments.

The article presents research on a new engineering material which becomes geopolymer. This is the material used to form a protective layer, to provide a high moisture absorption capacity, however, its composition is highly alkaline and, therefore, its absorption does not affect adversely the protected structures. The research included the effects of various corrosive environments for a change in weight of the test samples during the test, as well as the surface structure on a macroscopic scale.

The paper discusses the problem of the choice of the moulding sand mixture composition in terms of the sand behaviour in contact with molten metal. Studies of high-temperature phenomena make assessment of the sand composition applicability under real operating conditions possible, thus leading to the elimination of sand-originating casting defects. The research was conducted on selected moulding materials included in the composition of traditional moulding sand mixtures without the addition of carbon. The effect of moulding sand composition and moisture content on the linear dilatation and stress-induced allotropic changes of quartz was examined. The analysis of these phenomena was based on 3D charts and maps generated from data collected during the tests.

Problems related with the choice of moulding sand composition considering its behaviour in contact with molten metal were discussed. The investigations of high-temperature phenomena enable moulding sand composition to be evaluated in terms of its applicability under the specific conditions of a foundry shop. It is also possible to eliminate the casting defects related to moulding sand and its properties. The investigations were carried out on selected moulding sands from the family of the traditional carbon-free moulding mixtures. The effect of moulding sand composition and moisture content on the linear dilatation and stress formation caused by an allotropic quartz transformation was determined. The investigated phenomena were analysed on 3D diagrams plotted from the test data. A strong effect of the beta quartz - alpha quartz transformation at a temperature of about 600oC was stated.

The paper presents possibilities of using welding techniques as a means of protection from corrosion of materials for welding structures operating in power engineering industry, chemical industry and shipbuilding. Based on the example of an LNG installation, the potentials of weld overlaying in anti-corrosive protection of parts operating in LNG installations have been described. The weld overlaying technique enables building up of protective coatings, which not only protect material from corrosion resulting from the flow of more or less aggressive medium (e.g. water, exhaust gas) but also increase the performance life of thus “coated” elements due to the improved abrasion wear resistance of weld overlays. The weld overlaying process is equally well suitable in building of new structures as in the repair of damaged or worn out elements of water or power feeding installations.

This paper outlines the history of bell founding. The exceptional character of bells, which are products of supracultural importance, was stressed. The complexity of the bell manufacturing process and a unique approach to the technology design were highlighted. Basing on the data obtained from foundry shops currently operating in Poland, known as bell-casting foundries, the main guidelines for the bellcasting process as used nowadays by the Felczyński Foundry with long-standing traditions and Wojdak’s Foundry, both of which are casting bells according to modern technologies, using modern moulding materials and metal alloys, were described.

W opracowaniu przedstawiono problem doboru składu mas formierskich ze względu na ich właściwości w warunkach kontaktu z ciekłym metalem. Badania zjawisk zachodzących w wysokich temperaturach umożliwiają dokonanie oceny przydatnoci składu mas formierskich w rzeczywistych warunkach pracy, eliminując możliwość powstawania wad odlewniczych pochodzących od masy formierskiej.

The presents study deals with the issue of selection of moulding sand with regard to its properties conditioned by contact with liquid metal. Studies of the reactions occurring at elevated temperatures enable us to evaluate the sand applicability at the real condition of performance and to eliminate the possibility of formation of defects in casting caused by the sand.

W opracowaniu przedstawiono problem przemian polimorficznych kwarcu, będącego głównym składnikiem piasku formierskiego, zachodzących pod wpływem temperatury i mających bezpośredni wpływ na powstawanie naprężeń oraz zmian dylatacyjnych masy formierskiej. Badania tych zjawisk umożliwiają dokonanie oceny przydatności mas formierskich w rzeczywistych warunkach pracy, zmniejszając możliwość powstawania wad odlewniczych pochodzących od masy formierskiej.

In this study further extension of the investigation of moulding sands, including examination and dilatation stress at elevated temperatures, was made. Studies of this type enable us to evaluate the sand applicability at the real conditions of performance and to eliminate the possibility of formation of effects in casting caused by the sand. The dilatation changes and the stress formed as a result of phase transformation in crystals of quartz are very serious, and this is the very reason why these effects make studies of this type necessary and advisable.
