Niezaprzeczalny wymóg elastyczności funkcjonalnej we współczesnej architekturze wysuwa na czoło pytanie o formę architektoniczną w rozumieniu przestrzennych zewnętrznych i wewnętrznych uwarunkowań kształtujących budynek. System projektowania tzw. skorupa i rdzeń odzwierciedla .pewność siebie" sztuki wizualnej w kreowaniu elewacji przez odrzucenie funkcji budowli. Idea transparentności, półprzejrzystości, wizualnej wieloznaczności dzięki współczesnym technologią elewacyjnym pokazuje, że architektura nie tylko i musi odpowiadać witruwiańskiej regule: firmitas, utilitas, venustas, ale może stać się systemem przenikających się przestrzeni wnętrza, zewnętrza budowli, jej otoczenia - miasta lub krajobrazu.

The undeniable urgency of flexibility of function in modern architecture brings to the fore the question of architectural form but form of spatially extended inward and outward condition of the building. The "shell and core" design system reflects that visual arts develop their certainty in the creation of the elevation (the shell) by dismissing function of the building, The idea of transparency, semi-transparency or visual ambiguousness, encourage through modern technical solutions of elevation, shows that architecture may not only respond to witruwian rule: firmitas, utilitas, venustas, but become the entire system of outside and inside interlocking spaces of the building its site, the city and landscape.

Strolling across the streets in two completely different places - a small French town Roussillon and a big city of New York - Manhattan, one can wonder what is the beauty of each of these places? In the history of beauty described by Umberto Eco, the evolution of one's outlook on the matter of feeling beauty is tending from relatively narrow historical definition towards more varied contemporary trends. Placing architecture in modern theory of art, which defines avant-garde as "beauty instigation", one should ask himself whether architecture can be avant-garde instigating only by its originality and what is the "modern beauty" of urban space.

The basic force of the civilization is creation of our environment. This artificially created world became almost our only environment and architecture plays there the important part since we spend 80% of our live in enclosed spaces. The anxiety to create the best possible solution for such an environment, in certain urban and architectural aspects, leads us to a trap. The world of regulation and building code bound to forget what is the most important in architecture-its beauty. Being something more than cluster of buildings, space which surrounds us and created by us cannot be "arrested". The only subjugated space become the architecture.

The article deals with problem of contradiction between tendency of search for art in architecture through new concepts of space, form, its geometry and material usage versus necessity of background architecture. The author tends to proof, that background architecture as a main body of any urban formations, should be treated as a result of process related to history. Constant search for new solutions may lead us to lack of understanding urban spaces.
