A numerical investigation of stresses at the bond-line region (tread-casing interface) of retreated tire-tread sections has been presented. More specifically, considering the tire-tread section as a mixed-boundary value plane strain problem of elasticity, the distribution of different stress components are obtained taking special care of the associated boundary conditions. In order to obtain the present numerical solution, displacement potential formulation has been used in conjunction with the finite difference method of solution. In an attempt to simulate the service loading on the tread-section, the frictional no-slip condition of the contact boundary is used together with the uniform contact pressure from the road surface. Several tread aspect ratios are considered to investigate the influences of different geometrical parameters on the state of stresses along the influences of retreated tire sections. The results of the investigation are claimed to be highly accurate, and reliable, and thus, are expected to be used directly for actual design purposes.
