Replacing the IPv4 protocol with IPv6 on the Internet is currently one of the aims of the European Union policy. The main reason for this replacement is the effeteness of the addresses pool in the IPv4 protocol, which can cause serious complications in the evolution of the Internet and its adaptation in new areas, e.g., in next generation mobile telephony or the so called Internet of Things. Simultaneously, the addressing capabilities of the IPv6 protocol are practically unlimited and its new functionalities increase the attractiveness of its usage. The article discusses the problems connected with the IPv6 deployment on the Internet. Especially, the rules for realization of the IPv6 deployment and rules for cooperation of IPv4 with IPv6 (including cooperation tests) in network infrastructure and in applications are presented. Moreover, the European projects' results and the activity's directions of the national project Future Internet Engineering are discussed.

W pracy przedstawiono problemy zapewnienia dostatecznie wydajnego przetwarzania datagramów IP i implementacji stosów TCP/IP w urządzeniach sieciowych. Opisano kilka koncepcji mających na celu zwiększanie szybkości przetwarzania strumieni datagramów IP.

In the paper several software and hardware improvements will be examined to discover their usefulness in high performance servers and network devices in most popular network operating systems. We're approaching to the CPU performance border with exchange communication between CPU and Network Devices. The throughput between CPU and North-Bridge and South-Bridge in server mainboards was lately several times increased. But there are many other bottlenecks, which are more difficult to remove. For example - processing hardware interrupts originated from NIC (Network Interface Card) via only one CPU, even there are available more - like in SMP (Symmetric Multi Processing Systems). There are few suggestions and implementations of software and hardware improvements, which should solve most of bottlenecks. There are known as off-loading methods (TCP Off1oading, iSCSI Offloading, IPSec Off1oading), which are now implemented in Microsoft Windows Servers based on NT 6X technology. Other technology named RDMA, implemented in Intel server (named also as Intel I/O Acceleration Technology) is designed to exchange large fragments of memory between different servers without encapsulating in network protocols.

W artykule przedstawiono metody współpracy sieci IPv4 z sieciami pracującymi z protokołem IPv6. Omówiono możliwe warianty migracji z IPv4 do IM, w tym wykorzystanie translacji protokołów. Zwrócono uwagę na niebezpieczeństwo zahamowania rozwoju europejskiego Internetu spowodowane zbyt wolnymi procesami migracji do IPv6.

The article presents protocol's solution of cooperation in networks with IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. It describes possible variants of migration front IPv4 to IPv6 and ways of translations the protocols between IPv4 and IPv6. The authors pay attention to dangerous slow down of expansion :n European Internet, made by too slow decision process of migration to IPv6.
