The study concerns the causes and effects of implementing the kind of management in higher education in Poland - very unfavourable for its functioning - which is disintegrated by the actually realized objectives. Several key notions have been used in the preface whose description is presented in the subsequent points: integrated management, disintegrated management, management crisis, the improvement of the quality of management and management integration. It has been stated in the study that the disintegration of management intensifies together with the deterioration in the quality of management in higher education and thus it boosts the accumulation of management crisis which, in tum, triggers off the devastation in the minds and feelings of employees as well as their reluctance to unpredictable changes. In this difficult situation, higher education authorities have to - with the approval on the part of their employees or at least without their organized opposition - undertake a difficult task to prepare and implement a development strategy and a comprehensive programme of pro quality operations to overcome the labour crisis, to integrate higher education management in the existing conditions and in the given time. In this way universities may avoid the loss of financial liquidity, insolvency and total bankruptcy. It is high time university employees started to implement the reverse process - the integration of management - which must begin with a thorough and comprehensive improvement of the quality of management by the executives, the improvement of the quality of work by the employees as well as the gradual rise in the quality of work by all the employees, economically and emotionally committed in the works for the sake of the development of their organizational unit, faculty and university under the guidance of the executives; especially the chancellor and the deans. This indispensable university reform cannot be replaced by evaluation of education and class inspection. Feigning activity never brings positive results; it is a waste of time and money.

The article presents and comments upon the basic information contained in the 2005 ENQA report "Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area". One of the major conclusions from the report analysis is that it seems necessary to establish a Polish Institute for Quality Management in Education.

The article presents proposals on introducing the concept of quality management into educational establishments. Those refer to two important projects. One is development and promotion of an Enhanced Educational Organization Management Model, based on the EFQM Excellence Model. The other is aimed at introduction of a course called Introduction to Quality - Development Through Quality into secondary schools.

The author attempts to define the determiners of management quality. He divided the determiners into external and internal ones. The former comprise factors generated by the government, local authorities, suppliers, competitors and other stakeholders. The latter include factors controlled by and dependent on the board members and all the executives employed by the company: compliance with the 8 principles of quality management, implementation of the requirements specified in the EFQM Excellence Model, work ethics, economic work environment (related to the standard of living and social welfare of employees)

Prezentowany artykuł omawia badania dotyczące efektywności wdrażania systemu ISO 9000 w Polsce. Badania przeprowadzono firmach, które mają wdrożony certyfikat z serii ISO 9000. W artykule zaprezentowano następujące zagadnienia: ocenę systemów zarządzania przez podjęciem certyfikacji, analizę barier występujących podczas wdrażania certyfikatów z serii ISO 9000 oraz ocenę wprowadzonego systemu zarządzania ISO 9000.

The paper presented below concentrate on ISO 9000 efficiencies in polish firms. Research had been done in firms, which has got ISO 9000 certificate. This article concentrate on: estimation management systems in firms before and after ISO 9000 certificate and analysis of problems when a particular organization wants to use ISO 9000.
