Analysis of the structural changes in acrylic paint binders under accelerated ageing

The deterioration of the acrylic copolymer binder in exterior paints caused by ageing is analysed in the paper. The IR spectroscopy was used to investigate the structure of the acrylic copolymer water dispersion films before and after accelerated ageing Le. UV irradiation. The changes in the film structure were registered by the IR transmittance spectrum and the IR reflection spectre. The noticeable changes were found in the IR reflection spectra of the aged films and considerable alterations in the IR transmittance spectra. It play demonstrated the deterioration process on the surface of the binder films. No changes were observed in the entire structure of the binder films.
