The report presents modern status of the Ural region fuel and energy complex. The possibility of local fuels involvement in the energy base is described, in the framework of development of the investment project "Ural Industrial- Ural Polar". The project includes three mutually complementary components. The transport section is based on the construction of railway lines Polunochnoye - Obskaya - Salekhard and Salekhard - Nadym. Mining section will extend resource base of existing Ural industrial plants and provide resource base for industrial development in Harpsk mining region. Taking into account the needs of new mines, works and settlements in the electrical and thermal energy, the energy section will include the construction of network facilities and of local fuels burning power plants. One of them will be North-Sosvinsk brown coal burning power plant. The challenge for the use of Sosvinsk-Salehardsk brown coal in new and existing power plants can not be satisfied without scientific support. The report provides an overview of modern technologies of solid fuels thermal processing, their applicability to Polar and Near-Polar Ural brown coal. Criteria are proposed for appropriate local brown coal power technologies selecting for electricity and thermal energy production.
