Discussed are possibilities to utilize asbestos wastes, used asbestos and asbestos-cement products. Results of the experiments performed of their disposal through thermal decomposition of chrysolite being the main mineral of asbestos, are demonstrated. Possibilities to utilize asbestos in the manufacture of fireproof materials are examined.

The paper deals with the influence of the content of a thickening agent in the suspension for the depositing of Polyramix non-asbestos diaphragms on the applicability of such diaphragms in the electrolysis of sodium chloride solutions. The effect of the content of xanthane gum, used as a thickening agent, on the permeability of the brine has been determined, and also the influence of the activation of cathodes on performance indices of the obtained diaphragm-cathode systems in test analyses in an experimental electrolyser.

Zmielonym odpadem ceramicznym w postaci mączki ceglanej można częściowo zastąpić cement w betonie bez znaczącego pogorszenia własności mechanicznych betonu. Dzięki zastosowaniu mączki ceglanej można uzyskać oszczędność energii (do wyprodukowania mączki ceglanej potrzeba około 20% energii potrzebnej do wyprodukowania analogicznej ilości cementu) oraz zmniejszenie emisji zanieczyszczeń do atmosfery, ważne ze względu na ochronę środowiska naturalnego. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań wpływu mączki ceglanej stosowanej w miejsce części cementu na wybrane własności spoiwa, zaprawy i betonu. Stwierdzono, że badana mączka ceglana może zastąpić do 20% cementu, bez istotnego pogorszenia własności zaprawy i betonu.

Both economic and environmental costs of producing cement is very high. The utilization of ground waste brick products as a partial replacement of cement in mortar and concrete can contribute to reducing these costs. This paper reports the results of research on properties of ground brick modified binder, mortar and concrete as well as on the influence of the level of cement replacement by ground brick and of the water/binder ratio. The results show that the ground brick may be utilized as a replacement material for cement without detrimental effects on the properties of binder, mortar and concrete.
