W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań metalograficznych SEM, pomiarów mikrotwardości HV0,1 oraz wyznaczono naprężenia własne w warstwie wierzchniej stali C45 nadtopionej wiązką lasera CO2.

The paper presents the results of laser surface modification on the C45 medium carbon steel. The laser heat treatment has been carried out by CO2 laser beam. Scanning electron microscopes and Vickers hardness tester were used to investigate structure and microhardness of the surface layer. Residual stresses in the laser remelted zone measurement by Waissman - Phillips method. In the microstructure after laser remelting three zone have been observed: remelted zone (of microhardness 480 -610 HV0,1), heat affected zone to solidus temperature (of microhardness 450 -550 HV0,1) and heat affected zone to temperature with range A1 - A3. This surface layer performs different residual stresses: compression (ab. 300 MPa) and tenssion (ab. 150 MPa).
