An electron beam is used as a heat source in process of manufacturing of efficient cutting tools by brazing of cubic boron nitride (CBN) to steel or tungsten carbide base. There are different methods of superhard material fixing into a tool body. One of them, an active brazing, seems to be very promising. Using an electron beam to perform active brazing in vacuum conditions enables the precise control of heat flow as well as lack of gas impurities penetrating joint interface. The results of brazing depend mainly on the heating time, the electron beam current and the state ofthe CBNsurface.
