This paper deals with control of dynamic systems by repetitive, on-line use of optimization. The main objective is to present the issues of delays involved in data transmitting and control calculating. A proposal of an improvement of the system performance by taking into account the delays in the decision process is given. Profitability of developing sophisticated decision rules involving longer computation time is discussed. Simulation studies on flood control of the single retention reservoir systems illustrate the theoretical considerations contained in the paper.
