The southern slope of Łysica Mountain, which is the highest elevation of the Holy Cross Mountains, is comprised of three lithological complexes divided by parallel fault zones. The uppermost part of the succession consists of quartzitic sandstone of the Wiśniówka Formation. The formation is underlain by a complex of sandstone with mudstone interbeds, with black claystone underneath, which is exposed in the upper part of the Glęboczka ravine succession. The strata of the first and the third complexes dip northward, whereas those of the second complex dip southward. In the fault-bound zone between the second and the third complexes, there are concentrations of weathering iron ore. The black claystone, which is lithologically similar to this of the Pepper Mountains Formation, contains a taxonomically rich assemblage of organic-walled microfossils (acritarchs) diagnostic of the Upper Cambrian (Lower Furongian) successions. The new record of microfossils allows determining the age of the succession composing the Łysogóry Mountains for the first time in the history of regional geological investigation.

Some basic problems related to measurements of electrical impedance of biological objects (bioimpedance) have been presented in this paper. Particularly problems arising from impedance occurring at the sensor–tissue interface (interfacial impedances) in contact measuring methods have been discussed. The influence of finite values of impedances of the current source and voltage measuring device has also been taken into consideration. A model of the impedance sensor for the four-electrode measurement method containing the interfacial, source and measuring device impedances has been given and its frequency characteristics obtained by the computer simulation have been presented. The influence of these impedances on the shape of frequency characteristic of the sensor model has been discussed. Measurements of bioimpedance of healthy and anomalous soft tissues have been described. Some experimental results, particularly the frequency characteristics of bioimpedance, have been shown. The presented results of measurement show that bioimpedance can be a valuable source of information about the tissues, so measurement of bioimpedance can be a useful supplement to other medical diagnostic methods.

Three lower Cambrian acritarch assemblages recognized in four outcrops in the vicinity of Kotuszów in the southernmost part of the Palaeozoic inlier of the Holy Cross Mountains span a stratigraphic interval from the uppermost part of the Asteridium tornatum–Comasphaeridium velvetum Assemblage Zone to the Skiagia ornata–Fimbriaglomerella membranacea Assemblage Zone (most probably its lower part). According to current views (Moczydłowska and Yin 2012), this interval corresponds to the upper part of the Fortunian and to Stage 2 of the Terreneuvian Series. The strata yielding the oldest assemblage are thus the oldest precisely documented rocks in the Palaeozoic succession of the Holy Cross Mountains, and the oldest Cambrian rocks exposed on the surface in Poland. The current biostratigraphic scheme for the pre-trilobitic part of the Cambrian System in the Holy Cross Mountains should be modified so that it is based on local acritarch interval subzones.

Historic monastery of Holy Cross located on the top of Mt Łysa Góra (Bald Mountain) (595 m a.s.l.), which is one of the highest hills of Świętokrzyskie (Holy Cross) Mountains, is to be considered cultural and historical centre of the Świętokrzyskie region. Despite of eventful, almost a thousand-year, history, numerous destructions and redevelopments, the monastery, which up to the middle of 17th century was the biggest Polish religious sanctuary, is nowadays visited by hundreds of thousands of people annually. Through the ages, multiple types of natural building stones were used for the purpose of wall construction as well as for decoration of interiors of the monastery. In comparison with other architectural objects of the region, the monastery of Holy Cross is characterized with big diversity. Bearing in mind persistency and beauty of the structure, multiple types of natural building stones were brought to the top of Bald Mountain and can still be admired while visiting the abbey. Rocks, which represent almost entire lithostratigraphic sequence, from the Cambrian to the Neogene, can be found here. Majority of them comes from the area of Świętokrzyskie (Holy Cross) Mountains and its vicinity, however some details were made of precious raw materials imported from Scandinavia, Belgium, England and Italy, which were very rare in this part of Poland. Nowadays, viewing stone decoration of Holy Cross sanctuary, not only enables to admire work of art, but also gives the possibility to get acknowledged with richness and diversity of rocks as well as multiple interesting geological structures, which they include.

The uppermost Ordovician in the Holy Cross Mountains is represented by sandy mudstones, sandstones and marls of the Zalesie Formation deposited during the Hirnantian regression. Two arcitarch assemblages were recognized in the studied Upper Ordovician succession of the southern Holy Cross Mountains. The first one is dominated by species of Baltisphaeridium, Polygonium, Exculibranchium, Orthosphaeridium, Ordovicidium, Peteinosphaeridium, Multiplicisphaeridium, which occur in the upper Caradoc deposits. Upward in the section, these taxa are replaced mainly by diversified species of Veryhachium occurring together with Domasia, Deunfia, Leiofusa, Polygonium, Cheleutochroa, Multiplicisphaeridium and Polygonium. In the Zalesie Formation (upper Ashgill) they are accompanied by the redeposited Furongian/Lower Ordovician specimens and the Middle Ordovician species of the peri-Gondwanian affinity (e.g. Frankea), which were likely transported from Avalonia during collision of this terrane with Baltica.

Integrated analysis of trilobite and acritarch assemblages across the traditional Lower-Middle Cambrian boundary in the Holy Cross Mountains (Poland) has documented the development of both groups in this interval. Trilobite assemblages, comprising 31 taxa (13 are revised herein) dominated by the Ellipsocephalidae, change from the protolenoid-dominated in the Lower Cambrian to the kingaspidoid-ornamentaspidoid-dominated in the Middle Cambrian, and correlate well with the Agdzian Stage of West Gondwana (Geyer and Landing 2004). Correspondence to West Gondwana and Avalonia is also evident from the presence of the associated trilobite genera, Palaeolenus, Myopsolenites, Latikingaspis, Kingaspis, Latoucheia and Orodes. The acritarch assemblages, comprising 77 taxa, indicate that their main taxonomic turnover was gradual and preceded the earliest occurrence of Paradoxides spp., as in the Spanish sections. The geological succession studied in the HCM represents part of the Cambrian strata that are generally missing in Baltica.

Content available remote Modeling of surface tension for cast iron, ferritic and austenitic steels
EN
On the basis of the experimental data of the surface tensions for cast irons, ferritic steels and austenitic steels there were derived optimized formulae which allow to compute the surface tension data for these commercial alloys as functions of concentrations of alloy components for cast irons: ([sigma]/mN/m=2028-51.145*[%C]-25.828*[%Si]+315.586*[%Mn]-417.099*[%P]-4705.72*[%S] at 1773 K) and for ferritic and austenitic steels as a complex function of temperature and concentrations of alloy components. The accuracy of the data predicted by the model was of ca. 20 mN/m.

New acritarch data combined with the trilobite record date most of the Wiśniówka Hill succession (western part of Łysogóry, Holy Cross Mts.) as early Furongian (early late Cambrian). The taxonomic diversity and abundance of the acritarch assemblages allow a more precise age determination than previous studies, as well as correlation with contemporary associations from Baltica, Avalonia and West Gondwana. The stratigraphic significance of trilobite trace fossils within the succession is evaluated.

The financial manager needs to be alert to the effects of variations in economic activity and changes in economic policies. He must also be able to use economic theory as a guide to operating efficiency of the firm. The financial analysis is ongoing process that uses all financial data generated in the courses of the firm's activities. The financial manager's analytical work comprises exposition of accounting and financial data in forms allowing an overview of the firm' financial condition. This process is known as ratio analysis. Financial ratios are for practical use grouped into three categories, which are labelled activity ratios, profitability ratios and debt ratios.

The paper deals with new data from Lenarczyce PIG 1 well that drilled the Upper Cambrian deposits – hitherto unknown in the southern part of the Holy Cross Mts. The sedimentary record is composed of conglomerates, sandstones and mudstones that form up to 90-m-thick succession. Preliminary palynological studies indicate presence of a morphologically variable and well preserved Upper Cambrian acritarch assemblage. The well log can be divided into two parts due to differences in the tectonic style arrangement. The lower part (from bottom [= ? m] up to the depth of 128 m) reveal strong tectonic deformation demonstrated by the changing dips from horizontal through vertical to reversed. To the contrary, the upper part (above 128 m depth) shows lesser dips alternation and lack of folds. Both recognized structural complexes yield completely different acritarch assemblages.

Praca przestawia rezultaty badań eksperymentalnych dotyczących konwekcji naturalnej w wodnych roztworach soli, w których zachodzi przemiana fazowa. Wykonano pomiary zmian rezystancji w krzepnącym wodnym roztworze chlorków o stężeniu 0.6% wagowo, w dwuwymiarowym przekroju przepływu konwekcyjnego. W celu obserwacji zmian rezystancji w całym obszarze badanego przekroju zbudowane zostało stanowisko pomiarowe złożone z wieloelektrodowego czujnika elektrycznego, w komorze którego zachodzi zmiana fazy, oraz z miernika impedancji. Obrazy przepływu pokazują, że układ reaguje na zmianę rezystancji badanego medium, co stanowi podstawę do dalszych badań.

This paper describes a novel measurement of changing-phase salt-water solutions resistance field, depending of temperature and concentration. The resistance of 0,6% mass NaCI- and NH4Cl- water solution was measured, in two-dimensional convective flow, during solidification. An experimental set with a special multi-electrodes sensor and impedance meter was built. The flow with change of phase proceeded inside the sensor. The results of changing of resistance field, during the solidification, was a good prognostic for the future concentration measurement.

In the village of Pobroszyn near Opatów, a faulted section of Ordovician deposits represented by upper Tremadoc clayey-silty lithofacies, upper Arenig carbonate-phosphorite lithofacies and Upper Ordovician claystones with limestone interbeds, were identified. The upper Tremadoc is dated on basis of acritarch. This is the first time that upper Tremadoc deposits have been documented in the Łysogóry region. The late Arenig transgressive deposits were probably preceded by emergence in the latest Tremadoc and early Arenig. The Ordovician rocks from Pobroszyn are intensely tectonised. Two groups of faults, oblique and longitudinal, are distinguished. The first one strikes from 120-140°, and dip to NE at 40-45°, and the second one that strikes 15-25° and dips 65-80° to E.

The palynology of the Cambrian claystones and mudstones of the Góry Pieprzowe Shale Formation in the southern part of the Łysogóry region (Holy Cross Mts., Poland) are described. These deposits had been referred to the Middle Cambrian of the Paradoxides paradoxissimus and Paradoxides forchhammeri Superzones. Here, rocks from 10 shallow drillings and several exposures in the Opatów region have been examined. Scarce and poorly preserved acritarch assemblages contain several forms that are indicative for the Upper Cambrian, while the genera Acanthodiacrodium, Cymatiogalea, Stelliferidium, Trunculumarium, Nellia, Impluviculus, Calyxiella, and Veryhachium excludes the possibility of a Middle Cambrian age. Rather, these forms suggest the Upper Cambrian, most probably its middle and upper part. The occurrence of the rocks of this age to both north and south of the Łysogóry quartzite outcrops indicates tectonic repetition of the geological structure in the Main Range of the Holy Cross Mountains. The dark colours of palynoflora from the Pieprzowe Mountains in Sandomierz are identical with the colours of the Cambrian microflora from the Łysogóry region, and differ from the bright colours characterising organic matter in the Kielce region of the Holy Cross Mountains. This suggests a tectonic relation of the Pieprzowe Mountains with the Łysogóry region rather than with the Kielce region, as hitherto thought.

Ordovician acritarch assemblages of the West Pomeranian Caledonides and their platformal foreland in the Peribaltic Syneclise immediately adjoining the T-T Zone were investigated. Material come from the Ordovician section of the Kościerzyna IG 1, Lębork IG 1 and Gdańsk IG 1 boreholes drilled in the marginal part of the East European Craton, though acritarchs were found only in two samples from the Gdańsk IG 1 borehole. In general, microflora was abundant and the investigations supported current ideas on the stratigraphical level of these rocks. The acritarch assemblages from the Gdańsk IG 1 borehole, found at a depth of 3214.8 m, contain species of Baltisphaeridium, characteristic of the Llanvirn and described by Górka from the eastern part of the Peribaltic Syneclise and the Podlasie Depression. The abundant microflora from West Pomerania contains index taxa of the uppermost Llanvirn (Llandeilo) and Caradoc. Numerous palynomorph associations from the Ordovician rocks of the Koszalin-Chojnice Zone can be divided into three local microfloral zones, using quantitative data, and these may be useful for local stratigraphical correlations. Acritarch assemblages on either side of the T-T Zone show many similarities and suggest that, in the late Llanvirn and Caradoc, there was little palaeogeographic separation between the sedimentary basins of Baltica and West Pomerania; at least, their palaeolatitudinal positions were similar. The thermal maturity of Ordovician organic matter (low and moderate) is also similar in both these areas. The highest heat flow values seem to be characteristic of the western part of the Peribaltic Syneclise, adjoining the T-T Zone. The degree of their thermal alterations in the West Pomeranian Caledonides is surprisingly low when the strong tectonic deformation and considerable depth of the Ordovician rocks are taken into account. The high morphological diversity of the acritarch assemblages, the presence of Baltisphaeridium and Ordovicidium, and especially of abundant Veryhachium, suggest that microflora from the Koszalin-Chojnice Zone represents an open-marine depositional palaeoenvironment, distant from the coast.

This paper describes the microfloral succession in Cambrian deposits in the Kościerzyna IG 1 and Gdańsk IG 1 boreholes drilled in the western part of the Peribaltic Syneclise, immediately adjoining the T-T Zone in the Pomeranian Caledonides foreland. Both these boreholes have yielded abundant acritarch assemblages that allow the partial zonation of the Lower and Middle Cambrian deposits. The Cambrian deposits of the Kościerzyna IG 1 borehole comprise the following microfloral zones: Asteridium tornatum-Comasphaeridium velvetum, Skiagia ornata-Fimbriaglomerella membranacea and Heliosphaeridium dissimilare-Skiagia ciliosa. The Volkovia dentifera-Liepaina plana Zone may also be present. The Acadoparadoxides pinus Zone (upper part of the A. oelandicus Superzone), well documented by trilobites, might correlate with the Cristallinium cambriense-Eliasum Superzone. This conflicts with the findings of Jankauskas and Lendzion (1992), who restricted the range of the commonly occurring C. cambriense (Slavikova) only to the Paradoxides paradoxissimus Superzone and younger deposits. The Lower Cambrian Skiagia-Fimbriaglomerella and (or) Heliosphaeridium-Skiagia Zones have been documented in the Gdańsk IG 1 borehole. As in the Kościerzyna IG 1 borehole, abundant Middle Cambrian acritarchs of the C. cambriense-Eliasum Superzone define the presence of rocks not older than equivalents of the A. pinus Zone. Palynomorphs from the Kościerzyna IG 1 borehole correspond to stage 6 of the AMOCO thermal alteration scale, i.e. to palaeotemperatures considerably exceeding 100°C. The maximum palaeotemperature of the Cambrian rocks at Gdańsk has not exceeded 100°C.

For a number of about 4 thousands finał LD-converter slags, five versions of the optical basicity and the other basicity indices were established. The corrclations between them were studied, as well as between the distribution ratios of sulphur or phosphorus and the basicity indices for slags. The multiple correlations between thc chemical compositions of slags expressed by means of six methods and the distribution ratios were studied, as well. It was found that the best corrclations one obtains when the logarithm of the distribution ratios are related to the slag components' contents and temperature. The established regressions may be used for modeling of the desulphurising and dephosphorising properties of LD slags.
