Tekst odnosi się do twórczości dwóch architektów, którzy odegrali znaczącą rolę w rozwoju unikalnej architektonicznej i urbanistycznej wyobraźni na światowej mapie architektury współczesnej. Autor opisuje projekty argentyńskiego architekta Amancio Williamsa (1913-1989): Casa del Puente w Mar del Plata i cienkościenne konstrukcje „Umbrellas”, a także dwa najbardziej reprezentatywne dzieła włosko-argentyńskiego architekta Clorindo Testy (1923-2013): Bank of London and South America i Bibliotekę Narodową w Buenos Aires. Prace analizowane są według tematów odnoszących się do architektury betonowej i jej możliwych językowych i konstruktywnych odmian. Zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do znaczenia formy w funkcji strukturalno-materialnego składnika i do praw regulujących związek między materiałem a rozwiązaniami architektonicznymi.

The article reflects on the two architects who played a significant role in building a unique architectural and urban imagination on the world-wide panorama of contemporary architecture. The author refers to the Argentinian architect Amancio Williams (1913-1989) and his design of Casa del Puente in Mar del Plata and the “Umbrellas” – special thin shell structures – and to the Italian-Argentinian architect Clorindo Testa (1923-2013) and his two most representative works, both built in Buenos Aires, the Bank of London and South America and the National Library. The works are analysed according to themes that refer to concrete architecture and its possible linguistic and constructive declinations. Particularly to the meaning of form in the function of the structural-material component, and to the laws governing the relationship between static solids and architectural solutions.

The issue is playful, so my choice was to develop it by comparing two highly contemporary themes and absolutely classical types in architecture: the Type Tower and the Type Hall. Instead of writing to describe concepts and thought, I prefer to show my drawings and designs exploring figures and meanings, memories and experiences.

Zagadnienie jest żartobliwe, dlatego zdecydowano się rozwinąć je w odniesieniu do dwóch bardzo współczesnych tematów i absolutnie klasycznych typów w architekturze: typu wieży i typu hali. Zamiast opisywać pomysły i myśli, pokazano rysunki i projekty, eksplorując figury i znaczenia, wspomnienia i doświadczenia.

Artykuł jest rodzajem deklaracji programowej przywrócenia architekturze i miastu, jako miejscom rozwoju sztuki i idei, należnego im, centralnego miejsca w dyskusji. Kondycję badań naukowych w architekturze można poznać po relacji projektu i techniki. Jedność dwuczłonu przedstawienie-konstrukcja określa kulturę projektu, który powinien nie tylko rozwiązywać kwestie funkcjonalne, ale poszukiwać istoty konstrukcji jako procesu formalnego badając relację pomiędzy ideą formy a rezultatem.

Article is a sort of a mission statement to bring again architecture and the city in the center of the debate, as a place for ideas and art. In the relationship between the project and the techniques you can find a new and antique condition of the scientific research in architecture. The unity depiction-construction defines a culture of the project which should not only solve functional issues, but investigates the essence of construction as a formal process, as a necessary path studying the relationships between an idea of form and its achievement.
