Point cloud based viewshed generation in AutoCad Civil 3D

We propose a new method for a point cloud based viewshed generation. We start with a brief summary of existing methods for viewshed generation and then present ours based on point clouds. The method is implemented in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Moreover, we present an idea of how to deal with huge point clouds using AutoCAD Civil 3D and how to automatize this process.

W artykule została przedstawiona metoda tworzenia wykresu widoczności na podstawie chmury punktów. Zaprezentowano zarówno znane dotychczas metody wyznaczania wykresów widoczności jak i metodę bazującą na chmurze punktów zaimplementowaną w oprogramowaniu AutoCAD Civil 3D. Omówiono również nowe rozwiązanie problemu przetwarzania dużej chmury punktów za pomocą programu AutoCAD Civil 3D oraz propozycję automatyzacji tego procesu.

W artykule omówiono metodykę oceny zagrożeń ze strony wyrobisk górniczych mających połączenie z powierzchnią, usytuowanych na terenach zlikwidowanych podziemnych zakładów górniczych, oraz wyniki ich inwentaryzacji przeprowadzonej na terenie zlikwidowanych kopalń węgla kamiennego Zagłębia Dąbrowskiego. Przedstawiono informację o Archiwum Dokumentacji Mierniczo-Geologicznej przy Wyższym Urzędzie Górniczym oraz wykorzystaniu w pracach inwentaryzacyjnych zgromadzonej w nim dokumentacji mierniczo-geologicznej, zawierającej informacje o wyrobiskach górniczych zlikwidowanych zakładów górniczych.

The effects of mining activity may often become visible after decades or even centuries. Potential investors are afraid of investing large financial resources in areas previously subjected to mining. This is why making an inventory of mining workings with surface access located in liquidated underground mines is necessary to assess the current risk and to suggest preventive measures. The article presents the methodology of risk assessment for this type of workings. It also discusses the results of the completed inventory for liquidated coal mines in the Dąbrowa Coal Basin (Zagłębie Dąbrowskie). Obtained information will be valuable for the development of local land use plans in municipalities located in post-mining areas and issuing decisions on the conditions of land development. Inventory reports may help the potential investors to appropriately design buildings and other structures. The primary source of information for the Dąbrowa Coal Basin inventory were the documents collected at the Surveying and Geological Documentation Archive by the State Mining Authority. The Archive was established in 1999 and is the only place in Poland holding the surveying and geological documentation of liquidated mining plants containing information about mining workings with surface access. The Archive collects, archives and provides access to these documents as well as information regarding the environment and its protection. This ordered collection of documents is used by construction authorities, police, prosecutors, courts, court experts, investors, designers, property owners, scientists and companies in business governed by the Geological and Mining Law.

Towarzyszące eksploatacji przekształcenia i deformacje terenu, uszkodzenia obiektów czy zmiany stosunków wodnych, powodują nierzadko znaczne uciążliwości dla użytkowników powierzchni, stając się przy tym źródłem konfliktów i napięć społecznych. Rzecz w tym, aby starać się godzić dwa pozornie odmienne interesy: przedsiębiorcy górniczego, który wydobywając kopalinę zmierza do wszechstronnej minimalizacji kosztów i reprezentowanych przez organy samorządu terytorialnego użytkowników powierzchni, oczekujących normalnych warunków życia na podlegających wpływom eksploatacji terenach.

The matter of the protection of the mining areas is regulated by the act – Geological and Mining Law. The mining investor should, first and foremost, try to avoid any damage and should the damage appear – the investor is responsible for repairing it. This is illustrated by figures 1, 2 and 3. The investor is also required to recultivate the lands affected by mining activity. The role of the official bodies is to create instruments protecting mineral deposits and their free and unlimited exploitation, on the one hand, and on the other – minimizing the negative impact of mining activity on the surface and its inhabitants. One of such instruments is a local land development plan, in which the newly documented mineral deposits are obligatorily included under the provisions of the Polish Geological and Mining Law. The information made public in this way becomes an important factor in designing the development of the areas which can be used for mining purposes in the future. The presence of mineral deposits within their documented borders as well as within the mining area borders, as specified by mining licenses, should automatically result in limitations to the use and construction development of the land. Planning the land use after the mining activity is over should take into account the potential hazards resulting from mining and the secondary processes in the rock mass.

The paper talks over the process of open pit loam mine "Krasiejów". In 1999 were discovered the remains of the dinosaurs in the mining works. Paleontological works, lasting up to this moment, caused necessity of wide cooperation between mining enterpreneur, with local authorities for finding the way of reclamation of abandoned mining area for the benefit of public.

The article describes the the liquidation process of an open-pit Keuper series clay mine. Remains of dinosaurus which have been discovered in the excavation in 1999 and the paleontological works which are continued still today, led to the necessity of wide range co-operation between the mining entrepreneur with the self-government authorities aimed at finding a form of land reclamation of the once mining area to the benefit of the local community.

The article discusses the problems pertaining to construction of the A-4 Motorway length in the mining areas affected by mining operations conducted. The implementation of the project is connected with the necessity of satisfying the often-contradictory interests of the mining operators and the A-4 investor. The authors describe the present legal situation and the tasks of the Mining Office in the investment process.
