The article presents the results of research on the wear of the cutting tool in the process of high feed milling and plunge milling of the Inconel 718 alloy. A specially designed milling head was used in the study, allowing both of the previously mentioned milling methods to be implemented with a single tool. Ceramic inserts CNGN120712 in versions CS300 and CW100 were used for the research. During the experiment, the values of cutting depth ap [mm], cutting width ae [mm] and feed per edge fz [mm/edge] were changed. The study was conducted under conditions of accelerated wear. The results show the tool life in individual tests using the parameter of the material volume predicted to be removed in the tool life cycle Gmax [cm3], obtained by third degree polynomial approximation.

Statistical studies of the surface distribution of milled workpieces and the possibility of their use for operationbased tests and machine tool evaluation were presented. In the first part of the paper, the assumptions and scope of statistical research were defined and the method of obtaining data on machined surfaces directly from machining programs was described. In the following part of the article, the results of the research consisting in determining the probability of machining operations in the working space of a numerically controlled milling machine were presented on the example of machining programs designed for implementation on the DMC 1035V Ecoline vertical machining centre. The knowledge of the load distribution in the working space of a milling machine associated with the machining process can be used to design and manufacture the test pieces reflecting the machining tasks performed on the milling machine and to develop appropriate acceptance and evaluation procedures.

A procedure for assessing the properties of a milling machine based on machining tests was presented, with particular emphasis on shape errors and properties of the workpiece surface layer. The selection of an appropriate test-piece and cutting parameters for such a test was discussed. A mathematical formula was also presented, which allows to associate the accuracy of the test-piece with that of the milling machine. The proposed test procedure was verified by evaluating the DMC 1035V Ecoline vertical machining centre.

The paper describes the problem of tool wear in machining processes. The importance of determining and analysing the demand of machining centres for electricity was emphasised and the potential relationship between tool wear and machine energy consumption was indicated. The paper presents the results of the measurements of cutting tool wear on the energy consumption of a machining centre based on the analysis of an actual technological process. The paper presents a method of obtaining and processing large amounts of data. The changes in the form of power consumption by the machine tool depending on the tool operation time and the machining cycle being implemented were shown. The researchers proposed the possibility of using the recorded data to develop an algorithm for automatic diagnosis of catastrophic tool wear. The usefulness of the collected and analysed data in the context of developing a method for determining the machine electricity demand was indicated.

The developed method of identifying the signal from the power network analyzer on the example of a numerically controlled milling machine is presented. Obtained results allow observation of the impact of the condition of cutting edges on the value of power consumption by the machine tool from the network, for individual treatments performed on the milling machine under tests.

The assessment of the energy intensity of the VF-7/50 vertical milling center is presented. A study was carried out to collect data on the machine’s demand for electricity. A dependence was developed on the basis of which the energy intensity of the machine tool can be determined in the milling process. The results were verified experimentally.

Przedstawiono ocenę energochłonności pionowego centrum frezarskiego VF-7/50. Wykonano badania w celu zebrania danych na temat zapotrzebowania obrabiarki na energię elektryczną. Opracowano zależność, na podstawie której można określić energochłonność obrabiarki w procesie frezowania. Wyniki zweryfikowano eksperymentalnie.

The article discusses the importance of energy consumption for the modern machine tool. The research was carried out to show the influence of various cutting factors and parameters on the power consumption values of the machine tool. A special algorithm was developed to determine the actual energy consumption of the machine tool during the cutting process. The results of the study were compared with the algorithms of tool companies to determine the machine’s power demand. The possibilities of using research conclusions to develop a more accurate method for assessing the energy demand of a machine tool in the cutting process were indicated.
