There are numerous possibilities of active control of vibration in mechanical systems. Nevertheless, a very limited number of them can be applied to self-excited systems. This paper presents mechanisms for the generation of stick-slip self-excited vibration of the system with a relatively complicated, history dependent friction mode. The system is additionally influenced by an external harmonic excitation. The experimentally identified friction model enables the description of various cases of stationary and transient motion. For the majority of parameters the values of the external excitation, the amplitude of the system motion is greater than without it. But according to the theory, for the particular frequency of the external excitation, it is possible to minimise the amplitude more than twice. A discussion on the appropriate choice of excitation frequency is given in the paper.

The paper presents investigations into a self-excited system with dry friction. The system is composed of masses interacting viscoelastically with one another and with a moving belt by means of dry friction. An experimentally identified dry friction model for a steel-polyester pair in the case of quasi-harmonic vibrations was formulated. The model describes the friction force as a function of various parameters including: velocity of motion, acceleration, time of adhesion and force rate. Furthermore the model was applied during a computer Simulation of the vibrations of the considered system. A comparison between the results of the experimental and theoretical analyses is also submitted in the present paper.

This paper attends to the problem of a self-excited system with dry friction. The system is composed of mass that interact viscoelasticly with the drive, and by means of dry friction with a foundation The objective of the experimental research on the system was to formulate a dry friction model that would describe the case of stick-slip vibration as well as almost-periodic vibration of steel-polyester pair The model allows for the impact of the following parameters: velocity of motion, acceleration sign, time of adhesion and force rate. The paper includes computer simulation of the vibration of the considered system and comparison between the results of experimental and theoretical analysis.

The paper deals with the motion stability analysis and simulation of a discrete system that is composed of a mass interacting frictionally with a conveyor belt. There was assumed an experimentally identified dry friction model for steel-composite pair, depending on relative velocity, acceleration, time of adhesion and force rate. As a result of the system motion study, characteristic types of phase portraits were obtained and regions of qualitatively similar phase portraits were determined in the set of the system parametrs. It afforded possibilities for evaluation of the system behaviour for various values of friction model parameters and external damping, as well as of the system stability.
