The addition of a third sector field to the two sector field mass spectrometer (resulting in a BEIE2 field configuration) enables to study in detail the kinematic energy release distribution (KERD) over a relatively wide range of cluster ions. Using this newly constructed device we have studied KERDs and deduced binding energies BEs (using finite heat bath theory) of large rare gas cluster ions and of fullerene ions C(B+). Morcover, high precision KERD measurements and a new data analysis allow us to model also fragment ion peaks that are a superposition of different isotopes from decay reactions of fullerence and krypton cluster ions.
