In the/this paper a concept of an integrated information system for complex management of water networks is presented. The ICT system is under development at the Systems Research Institute (IBS PAN) in Warsaw for a couple of years and it is gradually tested in some Polish communal waterworks of differentiated size. Several waterworks management tasks requiring mathematical modelling, optimization and approximation algorithms can be solved using this system. Static optimization and multi-criteria algorithms are used for solving more complicated tasks like calibration of the water net hydraulic model, water net optimization and planning, control of pumps in the water net pump stations etc. [4] But some of the management tasks are simpler and can be performed by means of repetitive simulation runs of the water net hydraulic model. The water net simulation, planning of the SCADA system, calculation of water age and chlorine concentration in the water net, localization of hidden water leaks occurring in the network and planning of water net revitalization works are the examples of such tasks executed by the ICT system. They are described in this paper.

Ostatnie lata charakteryzują się szybkim rozwojem informatyzacji w krajowych przedsiębiorstwach wodociągowych. Podstawowa przyczyna tego rozwoju, to przystąpienie Polski w 2004 r. do UE, co skutkowało otwarciem krajowego rynku na nowoczesne technologie informatyczne oraz dopływem dużych środków finansowych z funduszy europejskich. Informatyzacja ta polega przede wszystkim na wdrażaniu w przedsiębiorstwach wodociągowych systemów GIS do generowania mapy numerycznej sieci wodociągowo-kanalizacyjnej, instalacji systemów SCADA do bieżącej kontroli pracy tych sieci oraz implementacji różnego rodzaju programów związanych z szeroko pojętym zarządzaniem przedsiębiorstwem, takich jak programy bilingowe, oprogramowanie finansowo-księgowe czy tak zwane systemy biznesowe typu CRM (Customer Relationship Management), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), PLM (Product Lifecyde Management), SCM (Supply Chain Management) itp.

Content available remote Mathematical and neural network modelling of a wastewater treatment plant

A comparison of a few methodologies of building models useful in wastewater treatment plant maintenance is performed. One is mathematical modelling of the activated sludge process. It consists of modelling of the basic vessels: primary clarifiers, aerator basins and secondary clarifiers, linked and partially looped, as well as equations describing the physical and biochemical transformations going on in the vessels: sedimentation in the clarifiers and biological processes changing the influent wastewater chemical composition. The models' parameters were estimated in two steps. In the first step the active volumes of the vessels were estimated from the experiment performed in the plant. In the second step, parameters known from the literature were used as the initial guess and then calibrated to fit the observations taken during normal plant operation. Concerning other methodologies, results from the black box modelling of the performance of the plant with the neural network are given. The neural network and the time series models are also applied for prediction of the influent wastewater.
