In the present work, a comparative study has been carried out, of the behaviour in marine corrosion conditions of a plain carbon steel AISI C1118, subjected to carburizing and nitriding thermochemical treatments. The corrosion rates and corrosion products were investigated. No differences in the marine corrosion behaviour of the studied steels have been found.
