Unfavourable effects of the fires impact on buildings depend on many factors, but one of the most important is the material used in the structure. It is rather obvious, that steel is more sensitive on high temperature than concrete. This article deals with comparison between decreasing of capacity load for steel and concrete bending elements. This statement is made in respect of not only quantitative but qualitative analysis too.

Prior dominant model of fire expansion can be expressed by time/temperature curves. In this case monotonically growth of temperature depends only on time. In reality, maximum temperature during fire is a function of many factors – quantity and sort of combustible material, shape of closed space, kind of ventilation and the others that can be hardly described. This article deal with exploration of special model with random, bounded perturbations called by author as ,,natural fire”. This model refers to chaotic evolution of real fire. Presented results of numerical example show consequences of using this model.
Opracowanie przedstawia pozycję metody szacowania zmian stanu stalowych konstrukcji prętowych poddanych działaniom wysokich temperatur. Metoda umożliwia uzyskanie w dowolnym czasie początkowej fazy trwania pożaru - rozkładów sił wewnętrznych, deformacji konstrukcji oraz rozkładów naprężeń i odkształceń w przekrojach. Do jej opracowania zastosowano przyrostową wersję metody elementów skończonych.

The paper presents a proposal of the method of the steel structure state estimation in fire. The method allows to campute displacements, distribution of internal forces, stresses and strains in cross-sections. The FEM was applied. Nonlinear elastic-plastic features of the material were considered. These features in case of efforted structures result in large deformations in the begining of fire. The computational example illustrates the method.
