W XXI wieku na świecie zwiększyła się liczba konfliktów zbrojnych. Autor omawia ich przyczyny oraz sposoby zażegnania. Wykazuje, że internacjonalizacja wojny domowej (kazus Syrii) lub regionalnego konfliktu zbrojnego (kazus ISIS) zwykle nie sprzyja szybkiemu rozstrzygnięciu sporów. Do 2014 roku wyzwaniem dla państw zachodnich i innych krajów była walka w tzw. Państwem Islamskim. Obecnie wyzwaniem jest wciąż napięta sytuacja na Bliskim Wschodzie, od wielu lat najbardziej konfliktogennym i najmniej bezpiecznym regionie świata.

In recent times there has been an increase in the military conflicts in the world. However those conflicts are not so bloody like the wars in the XX century. This article discusses both the reasons of those conflicts as well as the ways of solving them. It has been proved that the internationalization of a given civil war ( the case of Syria) or regional military conflict (the case of ISIS) usually is not conducive to its quick resolution. The biggest challenge for both Western and other countries is to win the war with the so called Islamic State and reduce the tensions in the Middle East which since many years has been the most unsafe and not war-free region in the world.

Celem artykułu jest omówienie aspektów dotyczących implementacji inteligentnych systemów transportowych oraz ich wpływu na efektywność zarządzania ruchem w ujęciu kongestii transportowej. W opracowaniu uwzględniono zakres funkcjonowania inteligentnych systemów transportowych z ukazaniem ich wpływu na poprawę jakości ruchu drogowego oraz charakterystykę, rodzaje i czynniki kształtujące zjawisko kongestii transportowej. Przedstawiono także sposób integracji transportu indywidualnego z publicznym na przykładzie wybranych państw europejskich, jako jeden ze sposobów ograniczania kongestii transportowej.

The aim of this article is a treatment some dimensions relating to the implementation of intelligent transport systems and their impact on traffic congestion management with a view of transport congestion. The study includes the range of functioning the intelligent transport systems, showing their impact on improvement the traffic quality and the characteristics, types and factors formalizing the transport congestion. It also presents the way of integrating individual transport and the public one too, based on an example of selected European countries as one of the ways to reduce transport congestion.

Stany Zjednoczone i Rosja zobowiązały się do całkowitej likwidacji głowic nuklearnych. Mimo zobowiązań traktatowych oba te państwa jednak stale modernizują i rozbudowują swoje arsenały nuklearne. Podobnie postępują inne potęgi atomowe, takie jak Chiny, Indie, Pakistan, Izrael i – w ostatnich latach - Korea Północna. Tego rodzaju aktywność mocarstw atomowych istotnie zagraża światowemu pokojowi.

The United States and Russia have obligated themselves to pursuing complete nuclear disarmament. However, despite their treaty obligations, these two countries, as well as other atomic power such as Chena, India, Pakistan, Israel and recently and North Korea, have been steadily modernizing and rebuilding their nuclear arsenals. Such strategy constitutes a very serious challenge in the world peace.

This paper presents a methodology of simulation the production processes and, in particular the utilization of the FlexSim program to design production processes. It is explained the basic issues related to modeling and simulation, and introduced the use of certain tools of the program to model a simple manufacturing process.

Przedstawiono wyniki badań współczynnika wnikania masy w pulsacyjnej kolumnie barbotażowej o przekroju kwadratowym o boku D = 0,135 m i wysokości całkowitej H = 2,25 m. Zastosowanie pulsacji cieczy w kolumnie barbotażowej powoduje znaczną intensyfikację procesów wymiany masy. Zaprezentowano wpływ wartości kolejnych częstotliwości rezonansowych pulsacji na wartość współczynnika wnikania masy dla kolumn o smukłości H/D < 10.

Results of studies on mass transfer coefficient in a glass pulsed bubble column of square section with the side D = 0.135 m and height H = 2.25 m are presented in the paper. Application of pulsation to a bubble column caused intensification of mass transfer processes. The influence of resonant frequencies on a value of volumetric mass transfer coefficient for a column with the slenderness H/D < 10 is presented.

Autorzy podjęli w pracy próbę opisu hydrodynamiki przepływu dwufazowego ciecz-ciecz w mikrokanale. Lokalny udział fazy rozproszonej porównano z jej udziałem pozornym wynikającym ze strumieni faz. Stwierdzono, że przepływ był niehomogeniczny, w każdym przypadku zauważano poślizg fazy rozproszonej. Zaproponowane w pracy równanie najlepiej opisuje udział fazy rozproszonej w mieszaninie ciecz-ciecz przepływającej przez mikrokanał.

In this paper a hydrodynamics of two-phase flow of liquid-liquid mixture in a microchannel is discussed. The local volume fraction of dispersed phase was compared with the inlet volumetric quality of the same phase. A non-homogeneous flow and the slip of dispersed phase were observed for each experimental data. The correlation equation proposed in this work is the best method describing experimental data concerning dispersed phase in liquid-liquid flow in microchannels.

Purpose: Disabled persons, who wants to learn to drive a car, are often forced to buy own car and adapt it to their personal abilities. The other chance for them is to use the car simulator. Such simulator was built, but one of the most important issues was to make the experiences as realistic as possible. All parameters have been set experimentally and tested by many drivers. It was necessary to find a compromise between safety and reality. In order to protect the simulator from damages, it was necessary to build the computer model and to conduct the simulation virtually before setting up the parameters of the real simulator. Design/methodology/approach: In the paper is presented the method of modelling the Steward platform (which is the base of the car simulator) in LabView Robotics software. The application uses the CAD model of the platform and conducts digital simulation of its movements to show all possible positions of the simulator. The simulation tests also have been done earlier, conducted in the NX program, during the design process. These results are used as the reference for the current simulation in order to check the correctness of the LabView model. Findings: The digital model of the simulator allows analysing the Steward platform workspace with the high accuracy. The collision in the virtual world will not cause any damages, which could be possible in real tests. This method of verification shows also if there is possible to extend the platform’s workspace. Research limitations/implications: The variety of experiments concerning static, kinematic and dynamic parameters of the platform has been done using the virtual model. Such experiments are especially dangerous for real simulator, because of extreme values of parameters like velocity or acceleration. The real static tests should be performed slowly and hence there is time to react when the signs of damage appear, but during the real dynamic tests, the time for reaction is very short and it is easier to destroy the simulator. Practical implications: The virtual tests of system dynamics are divided into two stages. In the first one, the values of velocities and accelerations are set by the software in the motion parameter window. It is measured the impact on the driver. In the second stage it is used the virtual model of mechanical part of the simulator. The UDP protocol is used to communicate with the control system and obtain the motion parameters. Originality/value: The tests allow checking the real parameters of the simulator work. The hazards and improper parameter, which cannot be detected in real test, have been revealed. The results allow setting more proper dynamic parameters and ensuring the better usage of the simulator workspace.

Optimization of conducted operations in a production system is one of the most important element of production process designing. It is particularly important for the lean production process. The papers presents a concept of an optimizing process basing on application of virtual models of element constituting the analysed system. Modern CAE system allows to build and investigate any technical systems in a virtual environment. The analysis of a cooperation process between all elements of the investigated system let to improve the project of future system or the design of an existing one. Moreover in the paper are presented virtual models of created and investigated technical system. Also the basic relation between mentioned systems are discussed.

The paper presents a lean management approach to the production system organisation. The scope of the presented work includes problems considered with both production engineering and workflow management in the context of non-time added task. Themain applied tools is the 5S method of work scene ordering and visual control of manufactured parts. The utilisation of proposed approach is described basing on the example of the production of industrial boilers in conditions of a piece production. The application of 5S method allows shortening by 3 day the production cycle. It was considered with the workplace ordering and decreasing the auxiliary times. While the introduction of a visual control let to improve the operation of failure detection and instructing employees. Typically this operation occupied 2 days and has been shorten of 25% and 1,5 day for directing employees work instructions . It is also recommended to introduce to the production practice the utilisation of formalized approach basing on written documents.

The scope of the paper is to present the application of the pneumatic dampers for protection the hydraulics system against dynamic loads. This solution on the constructional methods of making the whole system more flexible. One of the possible solution is the application of the pneumatic damper that function as safety devices when the permissible pressure is exceeded.

This paper presents a method, basing on the engineering knowledge and experience, for aiding the design process. In this method, the system is built using the hybrid architecture that combines the advisory system and the CBR method. In the paper the structure of the advisory system and the functioning of the CBR system have been described. Attention was drawn to the problem of an "empty database" in relation to systems basing on the CBR method. It was also discussed the area of engineering activities for which the proposed method is dedicated.

In this paper is presented the design process of the research vehicle chassis made entirely by a computer. Analysed using the concepts of knowledge in the field of bionics. A model, stress analysis and aerodynamic optimization and traffic simulations. To complete the model and analysis program was used Unigraphics NX 7.5.

One of the most important aspects of management is its quality. This is of particular importance for the management of universities, before whom especially ambitious but different goals were set. The set of these goals includes: professionalism, efficiency, entrepreneurship and creativity. Analyzing, basing on the Mintzberg's typology of organizations, mentioned determinants of the university development it could be shown that they are characterized for very different organizational structures. Professionalism is a feature of a professional bureaucracy, while efficiency is characterized for a machine bureaucracy. Entrepreneurship is associated with a simple structure and the creativity with an adhocracy. This comparison shows that the university in its current organizational form is not prepared to simultaneously carry out all those goals. One of the solutions could be the internal specialization of individual units of universities in the implementation of selected determinants of development.

Jednym z elementów modelowania i badania przestrzeni produkcji jest modelowanie urządzeń, które ją tworzą. W niniejszym opracowaniu przedstawiono wyniki pierwszego etapu prac związanych z modelowaniem ramion robotów przemysłowych na bazie schematów w postaci łańcuchów kinematycznych. W ramach tego etapu opracowano koncepcję i modele pozwalające na wirtualne modelowanie ramion robotów z obrotowymi parami kinematycznymi. Przedstawiono również opracowania pokazujące powstałe gotowe przestrzenie produkcji w postaci gniazd zrobotyzowanych.

One of the elements of modeling and testing of production space is to model the devices that compose it. This paper describes the results of the first phase of work associated with the modeling of industrial robot arms basing on patterns in the form of kinematics chains. During this stage of work the concept of virtual models that allow modeling robot arms with rotational kinematics pairs has been developed. Also this paper presents studies showing the resulted production spaces in the form of robot cells.

Układy korbowe stanowią zasadniczy element silników tłokowych. Charakterystyka ich pracy decyduje bezpośrednio o charakterystyce pracy całego silnika. W związku z tym w niniejszym opracowaniu przedstawiono analizę obciążeń układów korbowych w różnych typach silników. Wskazano także na wady i zalety każdego z omawianych rozwiązań, które należy ocenić gdyż wpływają na zakres jego wykorzystania.

Therefore, this study presents an analysis of crankshaft system loads in different types of engines. It also shows the advantages and disadvantages of each of these solutions that should be assessed, because they affect the extent of its use.

Modelowanie złożonych obiektów technicznych w zaawansowanych środowiskach graficznych jest zadaniem wymagającym wykorzystania wielu specyficznych narzędzi projektowych. W przypadku tworzonego modelu skrzyni biegów wykorzystano zwłaszcza moduły służące modelowaniu kół zębatych, nakładaniu więzów oraz symulacji ruchu. Pozwoliło to na przeprowadzenie badań zamodelowanej skrzyni biegów.

In a case of the created gearbox model it have been especially applied modules for modeling gear wheels, imposing constraints and motion simulation. This allowed for a simulation study of the modeled gearbox.

Jednym z istotnych elementów funkcjonowania obudowy górniczej jest trajektoria ruchu stropnicy w trakcie procesu jej rozpierania bądź rabowania. Jej przebieg wymuszony jest przez stosowany w klasycznych obudowach mechanizm lemniskatowy. W niniejszym opracowaniu przedstawiono obudowę, w której prostoliniowy ruch stropnicy wymuszany jest przez mechanizm prostowodowy. Przedstawiono także badania wirtualnego modelu wspomnianej obudowy górniczej.

One of important elements of the functioning of a mining support is the trajectory of a roof-bar in the process of spragging or withdrawing it. Its course is forced by the use, in conventional supports, the lemniscate mechanism. This paper describes the support in which the straight movement of a roof-bar is forced through the strait-line mechanism. Moreover, the study presents the investigations of the virtual model of that support.

Obudowy górnicze to urządzenia mające zasadnicze znaczenie dla wydajności i bezpieczeństwa pracy w podziemnych, głębinowych kopalniach węgla kamiennego. Stosowanych jest kilka podstawowych rodzajów tych urządzeń. W tym opracowaniu przedstawiono analizę porównawczą dwóch podstawowych typów obudów pod względem analizy ich działania i struktury rozkładu naprężeń. Wyniki wskazują, iż najlepiej pod względem tych parametrów sprawdzają się obudowy czterostojakowe.

Mining supports are the technical means essential to productivity and safety in underground coal mines. There are several types of these devices. This paper presents a comparative analysis of two basic types of supports taking into consideration their functioning and stress distribution. The results indicate that the best, in terms of these parameters, is the four-cylinders support.

Purpose: The paper presents the results of investigations of new methods that could be utilized in a technical project management. These methods base on the classical quality tools which have been modified to fulfil new technical requirements. Design/methodology/approach: The empirical researches allow proposing a new formula of classical quality tools methodology. The proposed tools have been theoretically discussed and used to present the technical analysis of a mechanized mining support. Findings: Two theoretical findings could be presented. Firstly this paper introduced the concept of a weighted Ishikawa diagram. Secondly it includes the concept of a stratification analysis a data classifier. Research limitations/implications: The presented paper includes the description of possibilities of only one of many quality tools. The second limitation is considered with the analyzed technical mean, and namely a mining support. These limitations are the result of a range of the presented paper. Practical implications: This paper shows the importance of integration the management and technical procedures. The application of proposed techniques allowed improving the construction of presented mining support. Originality/value: The original ideas of the paper are: the concept of weighted Ishikawa diagram and the stratification analysis. These solution could be valuable for applications from the area of quality management and technical project management.
