In the present study the microstructural evolution of the new 9% Cr steel with boron and cobalt is shown during creep at 650 degrees centigrade. The minimum creep rates of the new alloy are significantly lower than those of the conventional 12%Cr steel. This is due to the high stability of M23C6 precipitates with respect to the coarsening and the preservation of high dislocation density in the course of creep exposure.
