The installation of a machine gun on board a helicopter requires designing the rigid and durable frame for mounting a machine gun. Additionally there should be considered the limit to the weight of the structure, which forces the payload of a helicopter. The paper presents the overview of frames for mounting firing positions as well as selected cases of strength tests. In most of them the attention in the description was paid to the frames created through the cooperation of the Institute of Aviation and Military Aviation Plant No. 1 in Łódź. The aspects of research on firing positions on the example of a selected frame are also discussed. Furthermore, there is presented the prototype of the mounting frame WLKM (multi-barreled aircraft machine gun) designed by the Institute of Aviation (in the co-operation with Zaklady Mechaniczne Tarnów) with some chosen results of the FEM analyses.
The article presents the positive results of the works performed at the Institute of Aviation in Warsaw, associated with modernization of a highly manoeuvrable training jet aircraft to make it reach the standards of increased manoeuvrability. It is shown how the maximum increase of a standard training aircraft manoeuvrability was achieved, which was the result of a small modification of the structure, along with the minimal costs of modernization and qualification tests. The paper also presents the basic process of modernization related to the development of iterative methodology, which includes numerical selection of mechanization elements, that is, strakes, slots and flaps. The parameters of the performed aerodynamic model are demonstrated as well as the results of the tests of its properties with the selected types of strakes conducted in a low-cost aerodynamic tunnel of 1.5 m diameter with the use of a sixelement aerodynamic weight. Parameters of the selected type of strake model with Fowler flap and slots are shown, as well as the results of the tests performed on it in the aerodynamic tunnel of 5 m diameter, and also the results of the buffeting resistance tests conducted in a transonic tunnel. The paper also presents the parameters of the designed optimized strakes, flaps and slots in 1:1 scale, which were mounted onto the aircraft prototype. Finally, the article presents the results of the full cycle of in-flight tests, which confirmed the anticipated project objectives and obtaining of a significant increase in the aircraft manoeuvrability by 48%.
Sprawdzono obliczeniowo sztywność, wytrzymałość statyczną i dynamikę konstrukcji, uwzględniając obciążenia powstające podczas wystrzeliwania flar i manewrów w locie.

Creation of thermal barrier, as the flares, fired from special devices, fixed on the wings ends, is provided for protection of helicopter Mi-24, before rocket attack. The paper presents analysis of the wing structure, after the changes, necessary to installation of these devices. Stiffness, static strength and the dynamics of construction were checked computationally, taking into account the loads, generated during firing flares and maneuver in flight.
This paper describes the European Personal Air Transportation System (EPATS) STUDY project realized in the Sixth Framework Programme. It consists of two parts: First part includes basic information about the EPATS STUDY project: project objectives, list of partners, project structure and deliverables. Second part contains results of the project. There are presented conclusions referring to the accessibility and suitability analysis of European airports, the EPATS demand forecasting, general requirements, environmental and safety aspects, business models and recommendations. Results of the EPATS STUDY project show that it is possible to replace car trips on a distance longer than 300 km by personal air transport based on small aircraft and small local airports in Europe.
The paper presents aerodynamic and dynamic characteristics of the last version of IRYDA-22 M96 Polish trainer/combat aircraft against a background of other modem combat aircraft. It is noted that the lryda-M96 has performed initial flight tests, during which it could make spatial manoeuvres at high angles of attack beyond the stall.
