Green measures for sustainable sea ports: A case study of the sea port in Gdynia

The aim of this article is to present the results of research on solutions that can be implemented by the Gdynia Sea Port to allow it to obtain the title of a Green Port. The conducted research concerned a broad area, i.e., the identification of initiatives taken by seaports distinguished as Green Ports and other possible solutions consistent with the ideas of sustainable development. The article focuses on solutions for the Gdynia Sea Port, which, despite the implementation of many pro-ecological initiatives, does not have the official title of a Green Port. Seaports serve many modes of transport, but they are currently dominated by road transport. The activities of seaports located in urban agglomerations significantly contribute to the emission of air pollutants, noise, congestion, and other factors, which directly affect the health and quality of life of its inhabitants. The research process involved a critical literature analysis, the method of deduction, and a structured interview with representatives of the seaport in Gdynia. Based on the conducted research, areas important for obtaining the title of Green Port were identified, including increased investments in renewable and alternative energy sources, as well as a focus on the implementation of intelligent solutions.

The current state of inland navigation in Poland and its future development under European Union transport policy

This article presents the activities of the European Union (EU) and Poland to develop inland waterways as an environmentally-friendly transport method. The paper presents positive aspects of transferring part of the load from other methods of transport, such as railways or cars, to inland vessels. It shows the level of development of inland navigation in the EU and indicates favorable natural conditions for doing so. The article addresses the issues of the insufficient state of waterway infrastructure in Poland and presents measures to improve it. It also identifies the main EU and government programs seeking to standardize a common transport space of the EU by developing inland navigation.

Pierwsza część artykułu poświęcona została przybliżeniu koncepcji inteligentnych miast. Opisano ważniejsze elementy, które wchodzą w skład tejże idei, bez których nowoczesne miasto nie może zostać w pełni nazwane inteligentnym. W kolejnej części referatu poświęcono uwagę konkretnej składowej koncepcji smart city, a dokładnie inteligentnej mobilności, bez której ruch w miastach, które wciąż rosną, nie mógłby przebiegać w pełni sprawnie i bezpiecznie. Szczegółowo opisano ideę Inteligentnych Systemów Transportowych jako narzędzi, dzięki którym zarządzanie transportem w mieście staje się o wiele bardziej efektywne. Starannie ukazano wszystkie elementy ITS, które wpływają na poprawę płynności ruchu, a co za tym idzie, pozytywnie oddziałują na bezpieczeństwo na drogach. Zwrócono również uwagę na zalety, jakie niesie ze sobą wdrożenie w miastach Inteligentnych Systemów Transportowych.

The first part of the article refers to the concept of smart cities. Important elements that are part of that idea and without which the modern city can not be fully named "intelligent" were described. The next part of the paper is reference to a particular component of the smart city concept - intelligent mobility - without which the traffic in the cities, which are still growing, could not run completely smoothly and safely. It describes in detail the concept of Intelligent Transport Systems, as a tool by which transport management in the city becomes much more efficient. All of the elements of ITS, which improve traffic flow and affects road safety favourably were descibed. Attention was also drawn to the advantages posed by the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems in the cities.
