The article presents a discussion of some aspects of environment protection related to rail transport. Particular attention has been focused on the problems of noise pollution and rail vehicle caused vibrations, threat to the environment resulting from transportation of hazardous materials as well as sanitary system solutions. Some solutions aiming at constructing environment friendly vehicles have been given. The article is completed with final remarks and conclusions.

Budowane obecnie pojazdy, aby można je było zaliczyć do grupy pojazdów nowoczesnych, muszą spełniać wiele wymagań podyktowanych międzynarodowymi kryteriami z tego zakresu. Do najważniejszych należą: możliwość znacznego podniesienia prędkości jazdy, przy jednoczesnym zachowaniu bezpieczeństwa i komfortu podróżowania, dążenie do maksymalnej ładowności taboru towarowego, przy zwiększonych naciskach na oś do 22,5 t, a nawet wyższych, stałe powiększanie bezawaryjnego czasu eksploatacji przy obniżeniu jej kosztów, a także zapewnienie jak największej trwałości.

In the article properties of aluminium alloys as well as possibilities of their use in railway were briefly discussed. Reasonableness of using more expensive material, yet profitable while exploitation, was also justified based on the material competetiveness indices and alloy properties. Demands set towards modern railway vehicles prefer introducing into their production materials with properties that assure the highest possible durability of the construction. These are the materials which join endurance to dynamic loads of changing character with resistance to corrosion and with low specific weight. A material which fulfils majority of these demands are aluminium alloys for plastic recast. In the paper, properties of the proposed alloys were briefly discused. Use of more expensive materials (to which aluminium alloys should be classified), when compared to carbon steels, can be easily justified based on the material competitiveness indices. These indices include: material cost for a unit describing desirable feature, i.e. material cost for an unit of endurance to specific weight. It may also be a cost of material loss caused by corrosion. Given values of the indices as well as their analysis enabled to state reasonableness of using more expensive material profitable during long term vehicle exploitation.

W artykule omówiono pokrótce własności stopów Al z najczęściej stosowanymi dodatkami stopowymi. Zwrócono uwagę na zagadnienia technologii elementów ze stopów Al, możliwości ich łączenia, a także korzyści płynące z ich zastosowania. Podano także przykłady zastosowania stopów Al w budowie wagonów i ich zespołów. Pracę zakończono spostrzeżeniami i wnioskami.‰%

In the paper the autor discusses briefly the properties of the aluminium alloys with the most common additions. Particular attention is paid to the technology of the elements made of Al alloys, the possibilities of joining them together and the benefits from their application. The autor gives the examples of the Al alloys' use for the construction of wagons and their sets. The paper ands with the author's remarks. ďđńň

Artykuł zawiera omówienie podstawowych kryteriów, spełnienie których pozwala na właściwy dobór materiałów na elementy konstrukcyjne pojazdów. W opracowaniu uzasadniono (podając przykłady) słuszność doboru materiałów wg kryteriów: wytrzymałościowego, technologicznego i ekonomicznego, opisanych szeregiem wskaźników uzależnionych od warunków pracy elementu, możliwości technologicznych oraz od zasad ekonomicznych. Pracę zakończono spostrzeżeniami i wnioskami.

The article presents basic criteria, whose fulfilling enables to appropriately select materials for vehicle constructive elements. Its justifies (giving examples) selection of materials based on the following criteria: endurance, technology, economy, which can be described by a series of indicators dependent on conditions of the element work, technological possibilities as well as economical principles. The paper ends with conclusions.
