This paper presents an analysis of faults in drive systems of tram wagons and proposes a system for the non-invasive diagnosing of the majority of these faults. Diagnostic tests were carried out on the selected drive systems of tram wagons of a public transport company. Various drive systems were tested which included both faulty drive systems and fault-free systems – this allowed for the performing of diagnostic measurements during periods of standard operation. The results of the performed tests enabled the design of appropriate methodology and the defining of the required research breadth which was to be conducted on the drive systems of tram wagons of specific types. The research required the recording and interpretation of signals relating to current, voltage, rotational speed, and vibrations – this was in addition to the standard diagnostic procedures used to assess the condition of the tested drive systems. These signal records assisted in the obtaining of additional information such as that which is concerned with the effectiveness of energy conversion by the drive system of a tram wagon during its operation. The authors selected optimum analysis tools and developed algorithms for diagnostic evaluation. Based on the analysis data the authors formulated a procedure for condition monitoring of the motors in tram wagons during test drives. The developed method will be useful for evaluating the conditions of tram wagons and scheduling their maintenance. The procedure can be adapted for evaluating especially the condition of cage induction motors in other types of vehicles.

The article describes possibilities of application of friction stir welding (FSW) in shipbuilding and railway industry. Actually, in these sectors of industry more and more often modern construction materials are used. The biggest restriction of implementing new materials is technological possibility of joining them. One of construction materials used in the shipbuilding is aluminum, mainly its alloy of 5xxx-aluminium-magnesium series. Its application is justified by good corrosion resistance in seawater and good mechanical attributes. Thanks to susceptibility to plastic treatment, one gains good mechanical attributes with thrice-smaller density than a density of steel, what causes triple reduction of weight of aluminum construction relative to steel one. Alloys of 5xxx series are well weldable. It is generally known that welding is not a good way to joint metals, especially the aluminum. The application of FSW with mixing allows one to change approach to production of aluminum constructions. Using aluminum plates prefabricated with FSW method allows one to reduce time needed for installation of construction and considerably decreases the production costs. The article describes technology and directions of development of friction welding of aluminum alloys of 5xxx series using FSW method. There is also shown analysis of its usefulness in ship and railway industry and comparison of mechanical attributes of weld made with electric arc using MIG (135), TIG (141) method and FSW method.
The paper shows the results of non-destructive and destructive tests carried out on high strength martensitic steel – Weldox 1300. It is used for the construction of crane lorries, mining equipment and submarines. During testing a test joint of the following dimensions was used: length – 600 mm, width – 300 mm, and thickness – 9.5 mm. Welding was executed using flux-cored wire Union x90. The results obtained in the following tests were analysed: nondestructive tests, tensile and bend test, impact test, hardness test, and macrotexture test. Non-destructive testing: visual, magnetic particle and ultrasonic inspections showed no irregularities. The material met the acceptance requirements. The results of the tensile test of the examined steel amounted to 1047 MPa on average. The samples were broken in the weld. During root bend and tensile test the specimen was bent up to the 180° angle during which no welding discontinuities were observed. During face bend and tensile test, the sample was bent to the angle of approx. 40°– visible cracks. Rupture of the sample in the weld and cracks created when bending are due to the reduced flow stress of the additional material against the tested steel. Energy of the impact test for specimens notched in the weld was 37.9 [J], and for specimens notched in the heat affected zone was 41.5 [J]. The average hardness of the specimen was determined at the level of 317 HV. Macroscopic testing did not show any delamination or welding discontinuations. In addition, strength tests of the base material were carried out. The results were compared with the product certificate provided by the steel manufacturer. The paper presents the results of tests, which can be used during factory production control of high strength steel.

The article presents the research results of the mechanical properties of AW-5083 aluminium alloy (AlMg4.5Mn) welded by MIG and friction stir welding FSW methods. Stress corrosion cracking was examined via the slow-strain-rate-testing (SSRT) according to EN ISO 7539-7. Tests were carried out in the air and in the 3.5% water solution of NaCl – an artificial sea water. The following parameters were measured: time-to-failure – T [h], obtained max. load – F [N]; strain energy (the diagram surface under the stress-elongation curve) – E [MJ/m³ ]; relative elongation of the specimen – A11.3 [%]; max. tensile stress – R [MPa] and narrowing – Z [%]. On the basis of obtained test results, it can be said that AW-5083 alloy joints welded by FSW method are resistant to stress corrosion in sea water. Tests have shown that the joints of AW-5083 alloy welded by FSW method, has higher strength properties compared to the joints welded by traditional MIG method.
Slow strain rate testing (SSRT) was used to test the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of aluminium alloys AW 5083 and AW 5059 (Alustar) jointed by friction stir welding (FSW). The test was carried out in the air and 3.5% water solution NaCl. Cylindrical notch-free specimens and cylindrical notched specimens (R = 5 mm) were used. The following parameters were measured: time-to-failure – T [h], obtained max. load – F [N]; strain energy (the diagram surface under the stress-elongation curve) – E [MAJ/m3]; relative elongation of the specimen – A11.3 [%]; max. tensile stress – R [MPa] and narrowing – Z [%]. On the basis of obtained results, it was noted that FSW-welded joints show superior strength and resistance to stress corrosion, compared to MIG-welded joints. The fractions after SSRT testing were cleaved with some ductile areas. This article also gives the mechanical features of friction stir welded Al-Mg alloys. Tests have shown that the 5059 alloy, welded by FSW, has superior strength properties compared to the FSW 5083 alloy, along with comparable, good resistance to stress corrosion. FSW 5083 alloy joints have very good resistance to stress corrosion - better than those made using traditional welding methods (MUG). Original value are received results of the stress corrosion resistance of new method friction stir welded Al-Mg alloy compared with traditional MIG method.
The area of environmental protection concern minimises the impact that technical objects have on the environment. Usually the most effective way of protecting the environment is to influence the source of the problem. For this reason studies are conducted to modify the construction of machines, power machines in particular, so as to minimise their impact on the environment. In the case of environmental protection from noise it is most convenient to carry out measurements in an anechoic chamber. Unfortunately, this is possible only in very limited circumstances. In all other cases measurements are performed using an engineering method or the survey method, both of which are described in the standards and by taking into account the so-called environmental corrections. The obtained results are burdened with greater error than those of measurements in an anechoic chamber. Therefore, it would seem advantageous to develop a method of obtaining similar and reliable results as those in an anechoic chamber, but in a reverberant field. The authors decided to use numerical modelling for this purpose. The main objective of this work is a comprehensive analysis of the numerical model of a laboratory designed for acoustic tests of selected power machines. The geometry of a room comprising an area of analysis is easy to design. The main difficulty in modelling the phenomena occurring in the analysed area can be the lack of knowing the boundary conditions. Therefore, the authors made an attempt to analyse the sensitivity of various acoustic parameters in a room in order to change these boundary conditions depending on the sound absorption coefficient.

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) – a new technology can be successfully used for butt welding of different types of aluminium alloy sheets. Research results on stress corrosion cracking for the AW 5059 alloy welded joints are presented. Stress corrosion cracking was examined via the slow-strain-rate-testing (SSRT) according to EN ISO 7539-7. The fractures were analysis by scanning electron microscope of Philips XL 30 type. Tests were carried out in the air and in a 3.5% water solution of NaCl – artificial sea water. On the basis of obtained test results, it can be said that 5059 alloy joints welded by FSW are resistant to stress corrosion in sea water. Tests have shown that the 5059 alloy, welded by FSW, has superior strength properties compared to the FSW 5083 alloy, along with comparable, good resistance to stress corrosion. This article presents the results of the low-cycle fatigue tests of AW-5059 Alustar alloy. Gas metallic welding in argon arc shield was used. Metallographic analysis of bonds showed a proper structural construction MIG welded 5059 aluminum alloy. The low-cycle fatigue tests were carried out in the air and artificial seawater (3.5% water solution NaCl), with stable amplitude of stress value. The stresses were changed in the symmetric cycle (the stress ratio was R = -1) with constant strain rate of 5mm/min and the frequencies oscillating between 0.08-0.2 Hz. During the tests the following parameters was observed: number of cycles until the specimen's destruction, upper and lower extreme values of force and strain for the selected cycles, duration-time of the test and frequency. Analysis of specimens fracture surfaces was performed with scanning electron microscope (SEM) Philips XL30. In case of the specimens exposed in 3,5% water solution NaCl the fatigue durability is lower than the durability of specimens tested in the air. The article depicts the changes in total strain amplitude Iac [mm] depending on number of cycles [N] obtained in the tests with ia=const and the low-cycle fatigue resistance for the welded Alustar alloy. Original value are received results of the low-cycle fatigue tests of AW-5059 Alustar alloy welded by MIG

The objective of the paper was to determine the effectiveness of removal of organic compounds, colour and turbidity from water supplied to WTP Czaniec. In the research, carried out in a technical scale in the years 2006 -2008, raw water was treated in direct filtration with various coagulants: PAX (XL 19F, XL 1905) and Flokor (1A, ASW). At the same time the WTP operated with application of aluminium sulphate (ALS) as a coagulant. On the base of the research the effectiveness of contamination removal for the technical filters was determined. The results show high effectiveness of water treatment and hence they make it possible to compare treatment effectiveness when prehydrolyzed coagulants and ALS are applied.
In industrial practice the welding of Al- alloys is usually performed under pure argon shielding by means of MIG or TIG methods. In recent years new joining techniques such as friction stir welding (FSW) have appeared. Joints of EN AW-7020 T6 alloy elements welded by using FSW method have been tested. Results of static tensile tests, transverse bending tests as well as tests on stress corrosion susceptibility are presented. Parameters of friction welding (FSW) applied to joints of plates made of AlZn5Mg1[7020] alloy are given. Stress corrosion tests have been performed by using slow-strain-rate testing method (SSRT) in compliance with PN-EN ISO 7539-7 standard. The tests were conducted in air and 3.5% NaCl water solution. The following parameters have been measured during the tests: time to failure – T [h], maximum failure load – F [N], fracture energy (area under stress-elongation curve) – E [MJ/m3], relative elongation of specimen – A10 [%], maximum tensile stress – R [MPa], as well as percentage reduction of area – Z [%]. On the basis of the obtained test results it was concluded that the joints welded by means of FSW method show good resistance to stress corrosion at satsifactory strength properties, which indicates that application of friction welding by using FSW method in shipbuilding industry is purposeful.
The paper presents the research results on impact resistance of friction s tir welded aluminum alloy A W 7020 [AlZn5MglJ. The joints welded by traditional MIG method of the same aluminium alloy were chosen as reference points. Friction Stir Welding (FSW) - a new technology can be successfully used for butt welding of different types of aluminum alloy sheets. The parameters for friction stir welding of sheets made of AlZn5Mgl [7020] alloy were introduced in the article. Metallographic analysis of bonds showed proper structural construction of the friction stir welded 7020 aluminum alloys. The impact resistance was examined via the Charpy test according to PN-EN 10045-1. During test the hammer angle of deflection beta after hitting was noted and next the brake work "L " and impact resistance "U" were determined. The tests were carried out on typical specimens of cuboids shape (55x10x10 mm), with "V" notch. The research was conducted at the temperature of + 20°C. After impact resistance test the failure surface of specimens was analyzed by scanning with electron microscope SEM Philips XL30. The research of impact resistance showed that the values of 7020 alloy welded by FSW method were higher compared to the properties of 7020 alloy joints welded by traditional MIG method — the average impact resistance was about 18% higher in case ofFSW then in MG.

The results of same corrosion and stress corrosion tests under constant sustained load, made on Al-Mg and Al-Zn-Mg alloys at corrosion and anodic potentials, are presented. The long term exposure of the alloys at anodic potentials is shown to be accompanied by fast failure, remarkable decrease in the tensile strength, very deep lass of plasticity and substantial uniform or intergranular layer corrosion of surface layer. The artificial aging improves the resistance of the Al-Zn-Mg alloys to failure and corrosion. Stress corrosion cracking is conc1uded to be mainly caused by dissolution mechanism rather than by entry of hydrogen.

Przedstawiono wyniki badań odporności na korozję warstwową i wżerową (ASTM G 66 - 95) spajanych stopów Al-Mg stosowanych w budownictwie okrętowym. Badano stopy: AlMg4,5Mn i stop ALUSTAR spawane łukowo metodami TIG i MIG oraz zgrzewane tarciowo z mieszaniem materiału zgrzeiny - Friction Stir Welding (FSW).

The paper presents results of tests on resistance to exfoliation and pitting corrosion (ASTM G 66-95) of welded Al-Mg alloys used in shipbuilding. Tests were performed for alloys AlMg4,5Mn and Alustar welded by TIG and MIG methods as well as by the Friction Stir Welding (FSW). The tested alloys welded by different methods are resistant to exfoliation corrosion. The pitting corrosion of different intensity and diversification depending on the test piece's zone and on the welding method was observed. The best anticorrosion resistance is shown by joints welded by the FSW method. Keywords: welded aluminium alloys, exfoliation corrosion, pitting corrosion.
