The matter of each information system is set of data contained in the system. In a group of land information systems (LIS) these are the geographical data representing some land fragment in a descriptive and graphical way. The choice of LIS creation method depends on a chosen way of source data acquisition, which defines the following and specific action taken to adapt data for created system's needs. This problem exists, because using different methods we can get data in analog or digital form. Moreover, digital data can be defined as text or graphical data, and graphics can be divided to raster and vector ones. The graphical data in a vector form are the most valuable data in a system, because otherwise we need a lot of complicated - and cost increasing - data processing in order to digitize analog data through raster form to the final vector version. "It is well known, that during LIS creation process (...) the acquisition of (properly prepared) data takes 90% of costs". The analysis of available data acquisition methods' usability will let to justify economically the choice of data acquisition method based on Global Positioning System (GPS).
