Studies were conducted on the modification of titanium white surface using selected silane coupling agents. The effect of the concentration of the organic coupling agents was examined (0.5; 1 or 3 weight parts per 100 weight parts of TYTANPOL R-003, TYTANPOL R-211 or TYTANPOL R-213 preparation of titanium white). The dispersive properties were determined by an estimation of the particle size distribution curves and of the polydispersity index. Moreover, microscopic observations were conducted permitting to evaluate the surface morphology of the modified TiO2 particles. The profiles of sedimentation in water were also determined for the titanium whites and the BET specific surface areas were determined. Selected samples of the modified and unmodified titanium whites were subjected to elemental analysis.

The melt-blown technique, despite its over 50-year-history, is continuously drawing attention and hence in the recent years its dynamic development is observed. Apart from applicational and construction works the focus is on modification of thermoplastic polymers according to melt-blown process. This offers the possibility to obtain versatile products. The paper discusses the application of biodegradable polymers in melt-blown technology.

Występowanie selenu w środowisku, jego rola biologiczna w organizmach żywych stało się w ostatnich latach przedmiotem zainteresowania badaczy wielu dziedzin. Jednoczesny dynamiczny rozwój analizy instrumentalnej stworzył szeroki wybór metod oznaczania pierwiastków śladowych. Skłoniło to autorów do ich zebrania, porównania wad i zalet oraz określenia przydatności do oznaczania zawartości selenu w materiałach biologicznych.

During last few years selenium occurence in our environment and its biological role within living organisms are the subject of increasing interest of many research programs of different scientific fields. Simultaneously, dynamic development of instrumental analysis gives the vide range of methods that allow to identify trace elements. It makes the authors (of the article) assemble and compare advantages and disadvantages of these methods in order to establish their usefulness for selenium quantification in biological materials.
