Selecting a logistics service provider: a definition of criteria that consider the requirements of an external competitive environment

A large number of criteria, the very diverse use of terminology and different classifications of criteria used to select a logistics service provider (LSP) reflect the lack of consensus in defining criteria. Moreover, whether the criteria are consistent with external requirements has not been analysed, which are vitally important for the success and competitiveness of the supply chain. This paper therefore presents a carefully prepared and evaluated classification system of criteria aligned with the requirements of the external environment. A multi-stage methodological approach was used. Selection criteria obtained from the systematic review of literature were first carefully analysed to find potential shortcomings. After that, a cluster method was used to reduce the numer of criteria and to aggregate similar criteria. A Pareto analysis (75/25 rule) was further used to rank the criteria according to their frequency of use and consequently according to importance. The obtained categories of criteria (vitally important criteria (C1), very important criteria (C2), important criteria (C3) and less important criteria (C4), using the AHP method, were compared by the experts to define their weights. This paper summarizes and extends the recent literature through a six-step methodological approach and proposes a new classification system of selection criteria.

This paper aims at identification of environmental initiatives and measures that affect maritime ports. The first part of the article describes the trend and drivers towards application of environmental measures in port sector. The second part describes the application of environmental measures and social elements at Port of Koper and analyses the main fields of environmental development. The Port of Koper can be used as the case platform for other similar and equally sized ports in the region, therefore a six pillar environmental with a social pillar platform is presented. The study results could help port management to define a scenario for a faster introduction of environmental and social objectives and measures in order to follow sustainable development and position itself in the future green and sustainable supply chains.

Artykuł ma na celu identyfikację inicjatyw i działań, które mają wpływ na środowisko portów morskich. Pierwsza część artykułu opisuje trend i działania podejmowane w kierunku ochrony środowiska w sektorze portowym. Druga część opisuje przykład portu Koper, analizując wprowadzane rozwiązania odnoszące się do aspektów społecznych i środowiskowych. Koper stanowić może punkt odniesienia dla innych portów w regionie Adriatyku o porównywalnej wielkości, dlatego wyznaczono składający się z 6 elementów model środowiskowy, uwzględniając także uwarunkowania społeczne. Wyniki badań mogą pomóc w zarządzaniu portami, określając wzorcowy scenariusz dla szybszego wdrażania celów i działań tak środowiskowych, jak społecznych, zgodnych ze zrównoważonym rozwojem.

The article describes the trend towards implementation of environmental initiatives in the maritime and port sector. The introduction of environmental thinking and green management has been analysed to better understand the impacts on European ports. Moreover, drivers influencing port’s environmental initiatives and their adoption were analysed empirically on the case of port of Koper which is classified as one of the leading environmentally friendly European ports. Based on an in-deep analysis of developed measures a wider used approach has been proposed which might be used as a platform by the ports in the region and also by other fast developing ports. It is obvious that ports will be forced to implement environmental objects in their longterm development plan. Obtained cognitions should help them to develop a scenario for faster introduction of objects and measures to obtain the status of a green port and follow sustainable development in the future.

Thus, business leaders are presented with a unique opportunity – intelligent logistics outsourcing to recast their organizations for the next wave of growth. This new intelligent outsourcing recognizes that the real power of outsourcing is in the innovations, mutual deeper relationship between a provider and its client, measurement and governance. To implement it, a new operating model must be adopted.

Brush-less Direct Current Machine Coupled with Internal Combustion Engine

The development and prototype design of a brush-less direct current (BLDC) machine with an external rotor and a control unit coupled with internal combustion engines (ICE) is presented. The main goal was to fulfill all ICE starting demands, regardless temperature and inflexibly limited voltage supply net. Stringent starting torque demands, electrical machine geometry limitations and a wide rotational speed range of the BLDC motor are reasons for control algorithm analysis in the low-speed operation range. Two approaches for the optimization of torque characteristics are discussed, the flux-weakening method and a modification of transistor conduction angle. A novel control principle is proposed which includes both of the above discussed approaches. A comparison between commonly used control method and the proposed control method is presented.

W artykule zaprezentowano projekt prototypu bezszczotkowej maszyny prądu stałego z zewnętrznym wirnikiem i jednostką kontrolną sprzężoną z silnikem spalinowym o wewnętrznym spalaniu. Celem głównym tego artykułu jest spełnienie wymogów ICE niezależnie od temperatury i podatności na zmiany sieci zasilające. Istotnymi wymaganiami są ograniczenia w geometrii maszyny oraz szeroki zakres prędkości obrotowej. Wymagania te powodują konieczność analizy i kontroli działania w zakresie niskich prędkości obrotowych. Dwa podejścia do optymalizacji charakterystyki momentu zostały przedyskutowane: metoda słabnącego strumienia i zmodyfikowana metoda kąta przewodzenia tranzystora. Została zaproponowana nowa zasada sterowania, która włącza dwie wspomniane metody. Przedstawiono porównanie stosowanej powszechni metody sterowania i metody zaproponowanej.
