The project "CERGOP-2, a multipurpose and interdisciplinary sensor array for environmental research in Central Europe" was approved by EC within the 5th Framework Program and started ApriI 1st, 2003. It was officially terminated October 31, 2006 (amendment 3 and 4) and financially closed end of 2007. The results of 17 work packages were published in the Reports of Geodesy, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland comprising altogether more than 3600 pages. On behalf of 14 contractors I give a summary of the current results which concern, for the area of investigation (15 % of Europe), a high quality GPS network operational for the next decade, velocity field and strain maps for geodynamical investigations and hazard mitigation, data for climate research and weather forecast, data for real time navigation and a seamless data bank for scientific and public access. The results are based on partly continuous GPS measurements at up to 80 permanent stations carried out during the last 14 years. In addition, I try to give a future perspective for the investigations to be done during the next decades which aim at the understanding of the internal forces being the reason for plate kinematics which formed the present shape of the earth surface during the last billion of years. Hopefully next generations will be able to forecast sudden changes of the earth surface including the necessary energy transfer leading to earth quakes and to give valuable support for risk management and mitigation procedures.

The project "CERGOP-2, a multipurpose and interdisciplinary sensor array for environmental research in Central Europe" was approved by EU within the 5th Framework Program and started April 1st, 2003. The official and of the project is March 31, 2006. However we applied for a prolongation of another 6 months and we are waiting for a relevant decision of EU. In 17 work packages we extented a high quality GPS network in a region covering about 15 % of Europe. It will be operational for the next decade. Velocity field and strain maps for geodynamical investigations and hazard mitigation, data for climate research and weather forecast, data for real time navigation and a seamless data bank for scientific and public access were established. This report gives a final summary of the project was arranged in Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina ( in November 2005), which included a Governing Board Meeting of the CEGRN Consortium (CCGB). Discussions included site quality issues related to site acceptance for CEGRN - the basic reference network, and an open forum on future potential project initiatives. The ADRIA, the GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security), the GEO (Group on Earth Observation), the GALILEO, WEGENER and TOPO EUROPE topical project areas were identified, where the Consortium could participate/contribute significantly. Candidate coordinators were assigned for each area. We have also to think about the continuation of this project - after its termination end of March 2006 or end of September 2006. Driven by the many natural disaster during the last 2 years people expect that science will strengthen its efforts to find solutions for explaining the influence of the forces leading to crust displacement and to determine the location, magnitude and the "date" of future expected sudden displacements, a task, which may take another century of scientific investigations, if even possible.

EN
The CERGOP2 database is designed to inform project members and the public about measurements, results and structural data, like station information, reference frames etc. During the run of the project it is mainly designed for giving members access to data needed for their work. A second purpose is to drop intermediate and final results for the project community, or at least to let them find the way to those data. Finally it will provide access to administrative papers, like reports, forms and pictures.

The project "CERGOP-2, a multipurpose and interdisciplinary sensor array for environmental research in Central Europe" was approved by EU within the 5th Framework Program and started April 1st, 2003. As a result of 17 work packages we expect for the area of investigation (15 % of Europe) a network set-up operable for the next decade, velocity field and strain maps for geodynamical investigations and hazard mitigation, data for climate research and weather forecast, data for real time navigation and a seamless data bank for scientific and public access. The decision of the CEGRN consortium guarantees the continuation of the project after its end (March 2006). After the kick-off meeting in Graz (May 2003) a first semi-annual meeting was arranged in Warsaw (end of September), which included a steering committee as well as a user meeting of the CEGRN consortium (the institutional framework of the project). Discussions included site identification, data access policy issues and the further extension of CEGRN, the basic reference network. The EGLJ annual meeting in Nice (Gil) has been selected for yearly scientific reporting. On this occasion we will give a summary report of the activities of the first project year.

Content available remote CERGOP-2/ Environment - a challenge for the next 3 years
EN
The project "CERGOP-2, a Multipurpose and Interdisciplinary Sensor Array for Environmental Research in Central Europe" was approved by EU within the 5th Framework Program and has been started recently (Aprii 2003). Based on long years of cooperation during the last decade 14 partners of 13 countries situated in Central Europe will manage 17 work-packages. The project will upgrade and condense the existing network CEGRN during the first year to about 80-100 multi-purpose GNSS stations (permanent and epoch). The epoch stations will be measured during the first and the third project year, local campaigns as well as scientific investigations will be carried out during the whole period. As a result we expect for a considerable area of Europe (15 %): A network set-up operable for the next decade; velocity field and strain maps for future geodynamical investigations and hazard mitigation; data for climate research and weather forecast; data for real time navigation, a seamless data-bank for scientific and public access. The CEGRN Consortium will guarantee the required long-term operation, the "Memorandum of Agreement" was signed September 2001 by all project partners. An update of the consortium's status and its activities is given. The paper further discusses which way the Consortium should interact and evolve in the new project environment.

EN
CERGOP-2 is the second phase of a long range European project focusing on the monitoring measurements of ongoing tectonic deformation processes in Central Europe. In 1999 on initial observing campaign was carried out on the newly defined CEGRN, the Central Europe GPS Geodynamic Reference Network in 13 countries. The maintenance of the Central European Terrestrial Reference Frame (CETRF) will provide a reliable 3 dimensional intraplate tectonic velosity field covering the Central European Region. The network of permanent GPS stations within CERGOP will emerge as an integrated multipurpose GPS network contributing to geophysical, environmental, meteorological studies and different real time applications in Central Europe.
