The paper will firstly look at the role of the Valuer and examine what is meant by 'value'. The function of the Royal Institution of Charactered Surveyors in the UK will be briefly explained followed by an overview of the Appraisal and Valuation Manual (red Book) and the role of the Approved European Property Valuation Standards (the Blue Book) In establishing consident standards as means of developing 'best practice' troughout the European Union as well as the European Economic Area, Central and Eastern Europe. The paper wil then look at the valuation of mineral deposits. Why dies the valuation of the mineral asset differ from that of the other interests in property? What are the factors wich will affects value? What methods of valuation would normally be used when detrning mineral asset value? Finally, by way if illustration, the paper will conclude with a summary of the valuation of sand and gravel deposit in Poland.
