Content available remote Building environmental assessment - site selection and project management
EN
Building environmental assessment is a specific process oriented to systematic, comprehensive and integrated evaluation of building performance. These processes lead to design, construction and operation of buildings with respect to criteria of sustainable development. Building environmental assessment is not only tool of control, but also tool of sustainable building design. The building environmental assessment systems deal with site selection criteria, the efficient use of energy and water resources during building operations, waste management during construction and operations, indoor environmental quality, demands for transportation services, and the selection of environmentally preferable materials. The Slovak building environmental assessment system was processed. The fields and indicators are proposed on the base of available experiences database analysis from environmental performance of buildings. The field site selection and project management will be introduced in the paper. Also the proposal and verify of this field will be presented for selected office building.

Radon is one of the most risky pollutions negatively influencing the health of people. Its co-activity with defective cellars creates an ideal path for infiltration into indoor environment of buildings, where an optimal air exchange must play its role to allow such an environment to be considered as healthy. IThe problematics of concentration of radon related to air exchange and building cellar type is summarized in illustrative and analytical form with emphasis on the effect of increasing the air exchange rate and related lowering of radon concentration as an optimal solution for all types of building cellars.

Nitrogen oxides are mainly produced by combustion at high temperatures and are formed by reactions between nitrogen and oxygen. People are mainly exposed to indoor nitrogen oxides. Indoor air can be contaminated from the use of gas for heating and cooking appliance. The most important indoor source of nitrogen oxides is gas burning in the kitchen. The effect of wooden and plastic windows on the level of NOx concentrations is described in this article. It was confirmed necessarily of air change.

Content available remote Indoor air quality and design process
EN
The design of a building affects Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). Designer's responsibility for IAQ is to determine relationships among IAQ, the building and its users, and to produce alternative design solutions in terms of IAQ. Since they make their design decisions during the process, they should also consider IAQ to reduce the risk of IAQ related problems. Systematic thinking of IAQ and the design process together is required for the consideration. Since IAQ appeared as a serious problem, scientists, engineers and other professions have been dealing with the subject. Most of the time, the subject is defined as an engineering problem. However, as major decision makers in building design, architects must deal with IAQ as well as the others.
