Safety and operation efficiency of the particle accelerators strongly depend on the quality of the supplied electric current and is affected by the electric properties of all elements of the circuit. In this paper the capacitance of the superconducting bus-bars applied in the cryogenic by-pass line for the SIS100 particle accelerator at FAIR is analysed. The unit capacitance of the bus-bars is calculated numerically and found experimentally. A 2D numerical model of a cross-section of the cable is applied. The capacitance is found with three methods. The stored energy, electric displacement field and charge gathered on the surfaces of the device are calculated and analysed. The obtained values are consistent. Experimental measurements are performed using the resonance method. The measuring system is undamped using a negative conductance converter. Small discrepancies are observed between numerical and experimental results. The obtained values are within the requirements of the accelerator design.
Superconducting magnets in the SIS100 particle accelerator require the supply of liquid helium and electric current. Both are transported with by-pass lines designed at Wrocław University of Technology. Bus-bars used to transfer an electric current between the sections of the accelerator will be encased in a steel shell. Eddy currents are expected to appear in the shell during fast-ramp operation of magnets. Heat generation, which should be limited in any cryogenic system, will appear in the shell. In this work the amount of heat generated is assessed depending on the geometry of an assembly of the bus-bars and the shell. Numerical and analytical calculations are described. It was found that heat generation in the shell is relatively small when compared to other sources present in the accelerator and its value strongly depends on the geometry of the shell. The distribution of eddy currents and generated heat for different geometrical options are presented. Based on the results of the calculations the optimal design is proposed.
One of the most important parameters, crucial to applications of superconductors in cryo-electrotechnique, is power loss. Measurements of losses in superconducting long sample wires require AC magnetic fields of a special geometry and appropriate high homogeneity. In the paper part of the theoretical basis for calculations and a simple design method for a race-track coil set are presented. An example of such home-made coils, with a magnetic field uniformity of about 0.2 % over the range of about 8 cm, is given. Also a simple electronic measurement system for the determination of AC magnetization loss in samples of superconducting tapes is presented.
Jednym z najważniejszych parametrów decydujących o zastosowaniach nadprzewodników w krioelektrotechnice są straty energetyczne. Pomiary tych strat, w wybranych nadprzewodzących kompozytach, wymagają stosowania przemiennych pól magnetycznych o dużej jednorodności. W pracy przedstawiono podstawy teoretyczne obliczania i projektowania cewek o uzwojeniach typu torowego. Podano przykład wykonania takich cewek, pozwalających na uzyskiwanie jednorodności pola magnetycznego rzędu 0.25% na odcinku długości rzędu 8 cm.

Inductive magnetometers used for measurements in pulsed magnetic fields should have correct frequency characteristics. In the present work we describe the construction of an inductive magnetometer for measurements of the magnetic moment in pulsed magnetic fields, together with the calculation procedures for determination of its sensitivity. We present a method for the determination of the effective coupling coefficient (k eff) between the sensing coils set (gradiometer) and cylindrical samples, as well as a method for calculation of the thermal noise (U TN) in the measuring system. The determination of k eff permits a straightforward connection of the value of the measured signal with the magnetic moment of the sample and calibration of the gradiometer in absolute units.

Magnetometry indukcyjne używane do pomiarów w impulsowych polach magnetycznych powinny wykazywać odpowiednie charakterystyki częstotliwościowe. Wyznaczenie k eff pozwala na bezpośrednie powiązanie wartości mierzonego sygnału napięciowego z momentem magnetycznym próbki i kalibrację gradiometru w jednostkach absolutnych.
W pracy odmówiono metodę wyznaczania impedancji powierzchniowej nadprzewodników, wynikającą z podobieństwa wnikania pola magnetycznego do nadprzewodnika do znanego efektu naskórkowego w przewodnikach przy prądzie zmiennym.

This paper describes a method of determining the surface impedance of superconductors, conceived from the similarity of the penetration of magnetic field into superconductors to the well-known ac skin effect in conductors. The method consists in measuring the depth of penetration of magnetic field into a superconductor sample and determining, on this basis, the surface impedance and specific conductivity of a surface layer of the superconducting sample. Theoretical principles and mathematical formulae connecting the above mentioned quantities are expounded. The presented approach allows for performing measurements by induction (contactless) method (i.e. measurement of the self-inductivity of a coil with the core made of the investigated superconductor) and calculating on this base the demanded quantities. This paper describes as well an experimental set-up for determination of surface impedance of superconductors. The set-up consists of a measuring inset (for a cryostat) enabling determination of penetration depth of magnetic field into a superconducting sample at radiofrequencies, and a computerized system of data acquisition and processing. Some exemplary results obtained by using the described set-up for a sample of high-temperature superconductor are presented.
