Initial tectonic movements of Adriatic Microplate result in dominating compression in the area of Dinarides. Collected structural data, compared with surface and depth data, with seismological and geodetic measurements taken in the account enabled the classifications of structures. Deformations and movements of structures directly depend on the stress orientation. This orientation varies from between 340-160° to 30-210°. In order to visualize the stress orientation, formation of different types of structures and their movements, examples of compressional structures are shown, as well as rotations of structures and conditions of creation of extensional structures. Finally, the map with fault zones is included, too. The data show narrowing of the area of Adriatic Microplate and the existence of its southern and northern part. Both parts are changing movement directions, leading to more tectonic activity. In active areas, formation of structures is recognized, and causality with fault locations and seismic activity is established. The amplitudes of tectonic movements derived from geodetic measurements between 1994 and 1998 represent important contribution for better understanding the tectonic activities in the area.

This paper summarises recent aetivities on merging the geodetic, geologic and neotectonic evidence of geodynamics in Croatian part of Dinnarides. The area of the City of Zagreb, which is the boundary zone of Eastern Alps, Dinnarides and Pannonian Basin is incIuded as well. It is shown here that the evidence for fractures of Eastern Adriatic differs from the previous hypotheses. This concIusion is derived from the results of various geodetic measurements: satellite positioning (GPS), astro-geodetic measurements of detlections of the vertical. These results are combined with geologic measurements and results of seismic activity studies in order to give more detailed and more accurate picture of the current situation in the tectonically very active region of Dinnarides. Several GPS-campaigns performed in the City of Zagreb area are examined as well. Due to the proximity of Croatian capitol, special attention has been paid to the effects of possible hazard on construction code.

Researchers from the Faculty of Geodesy, University of Zagreb, organized and performed various research activities within the project CERGOP2/Environment. The participation in both CEGRN campaigns was ensured with two epoch stations: Brusnik and Hvar. Activities related to the working package 10.4: International geodynamic test area Plitvice Lakes included several hydrographic measurements with the combination of GPS positioning and echosounder bathymetry. Repeated measurements with two frequencies yielded new insight about the sediments on the lake bottom. A structural map of the Lakes has been prepared, too. Geodynamic measurements has been performed on several special points. The foundation for future permanent station in the area of the Plitvice Lakes has been prepared.

We investigated the correlation between the results of astrogeodetic, gravimetric and geomagnetic measurements and the geological data about recent geological structures in the area of Eastern Adriatic. Comparison of movements of surface geological structures and geodetic and geophysical measurements yielded strong correlation between the three independent methods. Hence, combined recent structure of the area was obtained. We used the gravimetric data and total vertical deflections. Analysis of the results shows clearly defined boundary between the Adriatic Micro-Plate and the Dinarides, stretching from SE to NW along the outer rim of Croatian islands. Three independent sources of data show accurate location of two tectonic pIates, which cause significant seismicity in the area. Future research shall include seismological data.
