Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) was used as a template coupled with liquid process for synthesis of TiO2&enspnanorods. Immersion setting (IS) was carried out to insert a TiO2&enspprecursor solution into AAO pore. With the calcination and NaOH treatment to remove AAO, SEM characterization revealed that TiO2&enspnanorods with diameter around 100-200 nm were successfully fabricated from AAO commercial templates. The synthesized nanorods mixed with commercial TiO2&enspnanoparticles (P25) with a mixing ratio of 5:95 (by mass) were used as an electrode in a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC), The photoelectrodes made with nanorods showed a better performance than the cells used of only pristine TiO2&enspnanoparticles. The results from current density-voltage (J-V) characteristics of DSSCs showed that short-circuit current density (JSC), open-circuit voltage (VOC), fill factor (FF), and power conversion efficiency (PCE) are 11.78 mA/cm2, 0.72 V, 0.55, and 4.68%, respectively. Due to the effects of one-dimensional (1-D) nanostructure, the electron expressway concept was achieved in this research.

MgTiO3, MgTi2O5&ensp and Mg2TiO4 &ensp were examined as DSC electrodes to improve photoelectric conversion efficiency. MgCO3 &ensp(basic) and &enspTiO2&ensp powders (nominally, Mg:Ti = 1:1, 1:2 and 2:1 in mole fraction) were wet-ball milled in ethanol for 24 h. The mixed powders were calcined in air at 1100 °C for 2 h to obtain the MgTiO3&enspand MgTi2O5&ensp powders, and at 1300 °C for 2 h to obtain the Mg2TiO4 &ensp powder. Single-phase MgTiO3, MgTi2O5&ensp and Mg2TiO4 &ensp powders were successfully synthesized. Although the DSC performance was not as high as expected, all samples were functioned as DSC.

Well-controlled fine MgTi2O5 &ensppowders, with pseudobrookite-type structure, are desired toward various industrial applications, however, commercial powders are hardly available to date. In this study, we focused the processing and characterization of well-controlled MgTi22O5 &ensppowders with/without LiF additive. MgCO3 &ensp(basic) and TiO2&ensp anatase powders with/without 0.5 wt. % LiF additive were calcined in air at 1100 °C for 2 h to obtain the MgTi2O5 &ensppowders. SEM observation revealed that the non-doped MgTi2O5 &ensppowder consisted of equiaxed particles with the diameter of 0.51.5 μm, whereas, the LiF-doped MgTi2O5 &ensppowder consisted of elongated particles with the length of ~ 5-10 μm and the diameter of ~1.0-1.5 μm. The smooth surface of elongated MgTi2O5 &enspparticles demonstrates the effect of LiF doping as a flux, i.e., liquid phase formation during the reaction.

In both written and spoken languages, we sometimes use different words in order to describe the same thing. For Instance, we use "candidacy and "running in an election" as the same meaning. This makes text classification, event tracking and text summarization difficult. In this paper, we propose a method to extract words which are semantically similar to each other accurately. Using this method, we extracted similar word pairs from newspaper articles. Furthermore, we performed sentence extraction from the newspaper articles using the extracted similar word pairs. We hypothesized that the headline is salient information of the newspaper article and presence of headline terms in the article can be used to detect salient sentences of news text. By using similar words in the headline, we obtained better results than that without using it. The results suggest that our method is useful for text summarization.
