Wokół rzeźby "Lew śpiący", od momentu jej powstania do dzisiaj, są kontrowersje i niedomówienia. Nie jest jednoznacznie rozstrzygnięta kwestia autorstwa. Jeden z jej odlewów, stojący obecnie na bytomskim Rynku, jest własnością miasta stołecznego Warszawy, gdyż brak stuprocentowej pewności na to, że właśnie on stał w Bytomiu od 1873 roku. Nie ma natomiast wątpliwości, że figura "Śpiącego lwa" jest wybitnym przykładem XIX-wiecznego odlewnictwa artystycznego.

Round the sculpture "Sleeping lion", from the beginning of its existance till today, there are controversies and undertons. The problem of its autorship is not yet decided explicitly. One of its castings actually standing on the Main Place in Bytom, belongs to the Capital Town Warszawa, because it is not sure in 100% that even this sculpture was standing in Bytom since 1873. But it is beyond all doubt that the figure of the "Sleeping lion" is an eminent example of the artistic foundry production of the XIX century.
