We assign independent random variables uniformly distributed on [0,1] to the points of a projective geometry. We give a formula for the calculation of the expected value of the rank of a random subset of a projective geometry PG (r - 1, q). The paper contains an example of the expected value of a minimal base of the Fano plane PG (2,2).
