Requirements for personal protective equipment include the appropriate fitment of protective clothing to the individual user’s silhouette. Such clothing must not be too loose or too tight, because in situations of health and life risks, it can be an additional element of risk. The correct construction and fit are particularly important in the clothing protecting against electric arcs and dedicated for fire-fighters or for mine and chemical rescue teams, as well as in the multifunctional clothing for personnel working on the production of finished products of metals, glass or ceramics. The possibilities of generating the virtual models - avatars, that simulate silhouettes of target users, provided by the 3D scanning and CAD (Computer Aided Design) technologies, are successfully applied in the process of designing the clothing, both in the area of construction and proper fit as well as at the selection of textile materials. The aim of the publication is to promote knowledge concerning customization of advanced protective clothing construction. It improves the safety conditions and work comfort, as well as the design of the product. In effect, employers` care for workers` needs will be more appreciated.
