For years, the motorized and uncontrolled degradation of the public space of housing estates from the second half of the twentieth century in Poland has been appropriated. This has a negative impact on their functioning and image. The aim of the work is a detailed analysis of Kielce housing estate from the second half of the last century – Pod Dalnią, mainly in the spatial and communication aspect. The main focus was on the study of changes in the communication service model and the diagnosis of the parking problem, which also generates other tensions in the housing estate. This strives to formulate guidelines for comprehensive changes and strategies for the development of a housing estate that is not adapted to contemporary requirements and needs.

Societal changes at the turn of the centuries had an impact on the condition of present-day society, and thus the image of the space in which social life takes place. Urbanization happening for decades contributed to the phenomena and problems currently faced by the city and its existing housing stock. Residential areas are constantly transformed, changing their space, residents and quality of life. Therefore, it is worthwhile to examine them constantly, in various ways, by monitoring changes in the spatial and social aspects. The aim of this work is to examine the three selected Wrocław housing complexes from the 2nd half of the twentieth century – Popowice, Różanka and Gaj, mainly in architectural-urban and social terms, in order to identify their problems, the needs of residents and image of their place of residence. The results show the relation between the functional-spatial structure of the Wrocław block settlements and their image in the opinion of the inhabitants. Moreover, there formulated guidelines that can help housing cooperatives, city councils and local authorities to create a comprehensive concept of revitalization and development of the studied areas. This would provide an opportunity to undertake comprehensive measures aimed at improving the quality of life and spatial order of the housing complexes, reduce investment and revitalization activities inconsistent with their urban concept and the protection of public spaces and green areas, which is all of these the image of a housing estate is composed of.

Zmiany cywilizacyjne na przełomie wieków miały wpływ na kondycję dzisiejszego społeczeństwa i tym samym na obraz przestrzeni, w której odbywa się życie społeczne. Urbanizacja zachodząca przez dziesięciolecia przyczyniła się do powstania zjawisk i problemów, z którymi borykają się obecnie miasta oraz ich istniejące zasoby mieszkaniowe. Osiedla mieszkaniowe ulegają ciągłym przekształceniom, zmienia się ich przestrzeń, zmieniają się mieszkańcy oraz jakość życia. Dlatego warto badać je stale, na różne sposoby, monitorując zmiany przestrzenne i społeczne. Zamierzeniem pracy jest rozpoznanie trzech wybranych wrocławskich zespołów mieszkaniowych z 2. połowy XX wieku – Popowic, Różanki i Gaju, głównie w aspekcie urbanistyczno-architektonicznym i społecznym, w celu określenia ich problemów, poznania potrzeb mieszkańców oraz obrazu ich miejsca zamieszkania. Wyniki ukazują związek między strukturą funkcjonalno-przestrzenną wrocławskich osiedli blokowych a wizerunkiem w opinii mieszkańców. Ponadto sformułowano wytyczne, które mogą posłużyć spółdzielniom, radom osiedli i władzy lokalnej do stworzenia kompleksowej koncepcji rewitalizacji i rozwoju badanych osiedli. Dałoby to szansę na prowadzenie kompleksowych działań mających na celu poprawę jakości życia i ładu przestrzennego założeń mieszkaniowych, ograniczenie inwestycji i działań rewitalizacyjnych niespójnych z ich koncepcją urbanistyczną oraz ochronę przestrzeni publicznych i terenów zielonych; czyli to, na co składa się na wizerunek osiedla.
