Standard techniąues and microscopic studies (CCSEM/ SEM-EDS) together with AC electrical test and FactSage modelling were used for testing the sintering characteristics of three different Silesian's coal ashes. The thermodynamic calculations by FactSage were performed using different initial conditions in order to assess the influence of input data. Whereas the predicted solid phases differ, the results regarding slag phase formation are practically independent. For the tested samples it was found a correlation between the standard ST temperaturę (AFTs) and the results of FactSage modelling. The slagging and fouling tendencies were found inverted. The results indicate that the microstructure of the individual ash grains have an impact on the sintering process. The value of measured dissipation factor (tan S) depends on the kind of ash and the sintering temperaturę. The presented results point a promising direction for coal ash fusion behaviour and coal minerał matter transformation research.
