The article presents the role and importance of creating new green areas in the areas of urban agglomerations. Particular attention was paid to the processes of creating new green areas in post-industrial areas and urban wastelands and their restoration for cities. The issue of the formation of pocket parks is raised and the results of the detailed research carried out by the authors in 2020 are briefly discussed. The article presents a comparative analysis of several selected examples of pocket parks, describes the role they play in cities. The purpose of the research was to determine what elements of pocket parks play an important role for the microclimate of cities and their communities. An example of the creation of a new pocket park in the city center of Gliwice, Poland is presented. The conclusions of the research and the evaluation of the experiment carried out by the authors can be useful for the creation of urban policies, planning of green areas in cities and the creation of utility-functional programs for new green areas.

The architectural form of buildings is determined by many factors, one of the most important is construction technology. It remains in a close and inseparable relationship with architectural design. Contemporary technologies in construction are constantly subject to improvements, streamlining, changes aimed at increasing all kinds of efficiency (cost, thermal efficiency, labor input, etc.). One of today's widely discussed determinants of changes in the way buildings are designed and constructed is environmental issue. An awareness of environmental degradation and climate change and their consequences prompts the search for increasingly sustainable solutions. This paper summarizes the research on prefabricated solutions and their implementation, especially in single-family residential architecture. This article presents pre-design, design, and post-design experiences related to planning and realization of single-family houses with prefabricated wall technology made of light expanded clay concrete. The authors implemented comparative qualitative and quantitative research through case studies, the method also uses experiences from their own research by design practice. The advantages and disadvantages of prefabrication in the selected technology are presented. The authors attempt to answer the question of whether the individual architectural design approach is reflected in the relevant environmental considerations, including, first, those related to the mitigation of climate change and adaptation to its consequences, and to what extent the discussed technology fits into the assumptions of climate and environmentally responsible design.

The article describes the issues of reconstruction of school and kindergarten buildings in terms of local and conservation conditions. The theory of educational buildings design has been referred and confronted with the possibilities of implementing model solutions in the given context. An example of a multi-stage reconstruction and extension of a school and kindergarten complex located in Gliwice with over a hundred years of history has been discussed. Conditions as well as advantages and disadvantages of design solutions have been indicated. The authors, who are designers, try to answer the question whether the model solutions are universal enough to be used regardless of the context, or on the contrary.

Poszukiwania różnych form intensywnej zabudowy mieszkaniowej często prowadzą do nietypowych rozwiązań projektowych.

Compact housing development is nowadays a challenge in the era of progressive urbanization and decreasing land resources. At the same time, it is also a threat due to the spatial solutions it generates. The search for various forms of intensive housing development often leads to unusual design solutions. The article presents a study of selected examples of single-family housing (terraced, two-room and quadruple). The aim of the article is to present various forms of compact single-family housing - their advantages and disadvantages as well as the values of urban indicators that characterize these solutions.

Single-family housing - the form of residential buildings expected by the society is often inconsistent with the theoretical optimum form of housing that is recommended in urban theories and ideas. Research indicates that most Poles want singlefamily housing, while its density is low in comparison with multi-family housing which provides a more compact city. The paper identifies the thesis to what degree it is possible to develop a compact city with single-family housing. The authors verify how parametric design may be useful in urban design and spatial planning. The purpose of the article is to discuss the possibility to generate single-family housing estates’ projects using the parametric tool of the Grasshopper program. The authors demonstrate how parameter tool-supported designing may be useful for better effectiveness of using space. The research used a script by Dawid Kątny, developed for the purposes of his diploma thesis, in which he attempted parametric variants and optimization. The paper describes the issue of “density vs quality of life” in quantitative terms. Quantitative density variants can be used in analysis for future smart and intelligent cities’ development.
