Content available remote New Methods for Modeling Laterolog Resistivity Corrections
EN
The paper presents methods for laterolog response modeling. In Coulomb’s charges method, Laplace’s equation is solved for the electric field distribution in rock medium with internal boundaries between different resistivity layers. There, the boundary problem is reduced to Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. The second method uses a finite element array to model apparent resistivity from laterolog. The task is treated as DC problem and the Laplace equation is solved numerically. The presented methods were applied to borehole data covering a typical stratigraphic section of the Fore-Sudetic Monocline in southwestern Poland. Apparent resistivity was calculated using the Coulomb’s charges method and alternatively modeled using a finite element method which gave similar results. Then, a series of linear corrections for borehole, shoulder bed, and filtration effects for apparent resistivity obtained by the Coulomb’s charges method demonstrated the feasibility of calculating true resistivity of virgin and invaded zones. The proposed methods provide a flexible solution in modeling which can be adapted to other logs.

Reliable statistical analysis was carried out for the Main Dolomite reservoir parameters on the area of carbonate platform in the vicinity of the east part of Gorzów Platform, in the Noteć Bay, together with Krobielewko Microplatform, on the Grotów Peninsula and on the part of Wielkopolska Platform, reaching Pniewy region thanks to large number of laboratory measurements results. The standard measurements on the core samples (bulk density, effective porosity and absolute permeability) were enriched by mercury porosimetry results. Laboratory measurements results, especially mercury porosimetry, extended considerably information about the reservoir rock (the Main Dolomite) and contributed to the separation of diverse microfacies and paleogeographic zones. Petrophysical parameters of the three microfacies were compared based on the results of statistical analysis. It was found that grainstones were characterized by the best reservoir parameters. For these microfacies high average effective porosity and average dynamic porosity for oil and gas were discovered. Additionally, grainstones characterized by high permeability. [...]

Sarmatian thin-bedded sandstone and shales have been a subject of statistical studies to differentiate between good and poor reservoir rocks and to show gas-saturated layers in comparison to water-saturated strata. Statistical studies including fractal analysis were performed on well logging data from the Sędziszów 34 borehole drilled in a belt of hydrocarbon deposits that continue below the northern edge of the Carpathian–Stebnik overthrust. Lithological variability and porosity differentiation and changes in water saturation were traced on the basis of the results of well logging interpretation. Basic statistics and histograms of petrophysical parameters have been analysed. A generalized second order fractal correlation dimension was calculated for all parameters and analysed as for a time series. Fractal dimensions did not correlated with the parameters, but good positive correlations between them and the parameters were observed and showed that the curves analysed had the same type of complexity. High correlation coefficients showed pairs of fractal dimensions for those parameters which had similar variability and the same curve roughness. The fractal correlation dimension described the type of complexity of the parameter (curve roughness) and indicated, for example, how shaliness influenced the reservoir properties of the local Middle Miocene. Therefore, the results were also useful in practice, which gave extra information on thin-bedded reservoir rocks.
