In the contribution there are summed up the results of classic and contact fatigue tests on specimens made from bainitic steel, which is used for production of rails. The results gained from specimens taken from the head and the tail of the rail are compared.

In the contribution there are sumed up the results of classic and contact fatigue tests on speciments made from baintic, mangan and UIC steels, which are used for production of rails. The results gained from speciments taken from the head and the tail of the rail are compared. Despite of quite large dispersion of experimental results, significant differences in fatigue properties not only in various materials but mainly in speciments taken from the head and the tail of the rail were proved.
