Jednymi z najbardziej charakterystycznych elementów sylwet miast są obiekty będące dominantami przestrzennymi. Wśród nich szczególne miejsce zajmują nieużytkowane już wieże wodne. Stanowią one w swej różnorodności dzieła inżynierii, budownictwa i architektury. W związku z wprowadzaniem nowocześniejszych rozwiązań technicznych oraz nowych urządzeń regulujących przepływ wody w sieciach wodociągowych obiekty te utraciły swoją pierwotną funkcję, stanowiąc dziś jedynie relikty przeszłości. Artykuł podejmuje problematykę waloryzacji wież wodnych w mieście Ruda Śląska oraz identyfikuje możliwości i ograniczenia ich adaptacji, a także rewitalizacji. W badaniach wzięto pod uwagę uwarunkowania architektoniczne, jak forma architektoniczna, detal, walory estetyczne i stan techniczny obiektów, oraz uwarunkowania urbanistyczne, jak lokalizacja i położenie w przestrzeni miasta, dostępność oraz własności działek, na których są położone. Na potrzeby badań przeanalizowano trzy istniejące wieże wodne w przemysłowym mieście Ruda Śląska: wieżę miejską, wieżę kolejową oraz wieżę po lokomotywowni. W przeprowadzonych badaniach obiekty te zostały potraktowane jako element trwającej, etapowej rewitalizacji miasta. Artykuł ma na celu identyfikację tych uwarunkowań.

One of the most characteristic elements of city silhouettes are the buildings which are spatial dominants. A special place among them is occupied by disused water towers. In their diversity they are works of engineering, construction and architecture. In connection with the introduction of more modern technical solutions and new devices regulating the water flow in water supply systems, these objects lost their original function and today are only relics of the past. The article deals with the issue of valorisation of water towers in Ruda Śląska and identifies possibilities and limitations of their adaptation and revitalisation. The study took into account architectural conditions such as architectural form, detail, aesthetic values and technical condition of the buildings as well as urban conditions such as location and location in the city space, accessibility and ownership of plots on which they are located. Three existing water towers in the industrial city of Ruda Śląska were analysed for the purpose of the study: the municipal tower, the railway tower and the tower of the former locomotive depot. In the conducted research these buildings were treated as an element of the ongoing, phased revitalisation of the city. The aim of this article is to identify these conditions.
