The results of an experimental study of the effect of the pressure drop of the air filter pf on the operating parameters and exhaust emissions of a modern CI internal combustion engine of a truck equipped with an electronically controlled power system are presented. The tests were carried out for an air filter with a clean filter cartridge Δpf0 = 0.58 kPa and with a cartridge contaminated after a service mileage (about 50 thousand km) ΔpfD = 2.024 kPa. In each test, engine performance, exhaust emissions and relative change in emissions were determined: CO, NOx, HC, CO2, H2O. It was found that an increase in the filter resistance pf causes a decrease in the filling degree by 12%, engine useful power by almost 10%, exhaust gas temperature by a maximum of 30oC and an increase in specific fuel consumption by almost 5%. Air filter resistance has no significant effect on NOx emissions and HC concentration. There is a reduction in H2O emissions by up to 7%, CO by up to 13% and CO2 by up to 4%, and an increase in oxygen emissions by 15%, depending on operating conditions.

This work contains considerations on the structure of the road tractor market in Poland in the context of their types of fuel supply systems and the possibility of adapting modern dual-fuel solutions in them. The current injection solutions in most vehicles available on the market indicate the possibility of highly effective use of modern dual-fuel or RCCI fuel supply solutions.

Engines working in dual-fuel mode need special conditions to ignite air-fuel mixture without spark plug in a good moment with high combustion efficiency. To create homogenous air-fuel mixture the conditions in the cylinder are even more demanding. Many concepts of ignition was developed, but the most effective needs perfect mixing of fuel and air, which is a serious technical challenge. Technical solutions for dual-fuel engines cover the complexity of these problems thus leading to the further development of ignition systems in internal combustion engines. Fuel supply systems, the operation strategy of them, the shape of the combustion chamber are the most important elements to change and develop for correct operation of dual-fuel engines. The literature analysis showed a small amount of research carried out to optimize the operation of dual-fuel engines The variety of engines in which a dual-fuel system can be used requires much more research about them, and solutions necessary for their correctly operation.

Article presents the energetic balance of small-unmanned vehicle hybrid power transmission. The vehicle equipped with serial hybrid transmission consisted of electric engines connected to the battery pack and small Diesel power generator. In mentioned construction, battery is used as energy buffer and combustion engine is used more as emergency power supply, and is turned on when battery is depleted. In other condition, power generator can be turned off, without reducing power of transmission parameters, except its range. Vehicles with hybrid drive are very common chosen vehicles by users. More and more often, we also talk about searching for replacement fuels for internal combustion engines, so also for those with hybrid drive. The research was carried out on an unmanned land platform equipped with a hybrid propulsion system supplied as standard with Diesel oil. The article presents the problems of comparing the efficiency of a hybrid vehicle fuelled with Diesel oil, but also with alternative fuels based on kerosene and other components. For test, three types of fuels were used, standard Diesel oil, F-34 and with experimental mixture of Jet A-1 fuel with 10% of 2-ethylhexanol. Energy used for charging of the battery, from tank-to-wheel, was calculated. This also enables to calculate total efficiency of such hybrid power transmission, powered with different fuels.

Are we ready for electric cars?

Electric vehicles are increasingly present on the roads of the whole world. They have the opinion of ecological vehicles, not polluting the environment. Society is more and more often persuaded to buy electric cars as an environmentally friendly solution but is this for sure? Electric cars need quite a lot of electricity accumulated in batteries to drive on a long range. During the charging process, this energy is obtained from the electricity network, to where it is supplied by power plant. Electricity production from renewable sources is a privilege for the rare. However, electric cars are charged from the electricity grid, which in large part energy comes from non-renewable fuels. The efficiency of energy production in power plants and the energy transmission and conversion chain causes that only part of the energy produced in this way goes to the vehicle’s wheels. Although the power plants are equipped with more and more efficient exhaust gas cleaning systems, they do not clean them up to 100%. Sulphur, nitrogen, mercury and heavy metals remain in the exhaust. The article is an attempt to answer the question whether the total emission of toxic components associated with the use of an electric vehicle is not bigger than in a traditional internal combustion engine.

The problem of the military vehicles engines fuelling increases with the growth of the amount of vehicles in the armies. At the same time, another problem with fuel supply in modern engines is the use of bio component additives, which changes characteristics (quality) of the used fuels. Therefore, it is important to take actions to adapt engines to powering with fuels coming from renewable sources. The aim of the research was to evaluate the possibility of feeding the diesel engine (influence on the useful parameters and composition) with mixtures of the unified battlefield fuel F-34/F-35 with biocomponents in the form of anhydrous ethyl alcohol and RME. The tests were conducted during fuelling of the engine with six kinds of fuels: basic fuel (diesel oil), NATO code F-34/F-35 fuel, as well as fuel mixtures: F-34 and RME with different ratio and F-34/F-35 with bioethanol. In the result of the research it was concluded that the parameters of the G9T Renault engine with the common rail fuel system in terms of F-34 and RME consumption (using) decreased in comparison to diesel oil basic fuel. It is not possible to supply the engine with the mixture of ethyl alcohol and F-34 fuel - alcohol precipitation and obliteration of fuel system components.
