Content available Cost conditions of mass customization manufacturing
EN
According to requirements of the market a great number of small companies are forced to offer a wide variety of products and to frequently respond to the market with customized solutions. High-variety production like mass customization is facing the challenge of effective variety management, which needs to deal with numerous variants of both product and process in order to accommodate diverse customer requirements. Large product portfolios allow customers to select products closely matching their needs, but it results in a larger costs. In the production of mass customization a very important issue is changeovers times. In spite of applying modern management techniques, setup time still plays an important part in the production cycle time. To shorten the production time, and therefore lower the cost, the methods of group technology (GT) are used. This paper presents a method of cost calculation taking into account manufacturing in organizational similar groups. The main purpose of this method is to identify the range of costs of elements produced in GT. The method was validated in conditions of high-variety production.

Zgodnie z wymaganiami współczesnego rynku duża liczba małych przedsiębiorstw jest zmuszona do oferowania szerokiej gamy wyrobów i często oferuje rozwiązania dopasowane do potrzeb klienta. Wysoka różnorodność wyrobów (masowa kastomizacja) stoi przed wyzwaniem skutecznego zarządzania wytwarzaniem wielowariantowej oferty produktów dopasowanej do potrzeb klienta w oparciu o wariantowe procesy wytwarzania.

Since the production is aimed at fulfilling specific needs of demanding customers and not at filling warehouses, the production volume should reflect the volume of orders. In times of fight for the client every order has to be performed on time. What is more, in times of fight for shortening the delivery cycle, meeting safe deadlines, that is distant in time, is not enough. Companies are forced to meet short deadlines with keeping the product price competitiveness condition. It is hardly possible without a advanced planning support system. Currently, advanced planning systems are coming into use, however their cost exceeds the possibilities of small and medium enterprises and algorithms used often require great customization to industries’ needs and conditions of unit and small-batch production. Such conditions lead to a need for simplified methods. The methods used so far are not capable of finding the global optimum of such big data ranges. For this reason computer tools for applying to the industrial scale are needed. The above method basis on the data so far collected in ERP system.

The paper presents selected aspects of production management related to the product customization. Product customization leads to an exponentially increased number of product and process variants, which exaggerates the difficulties in manufacturing in make-to-order production systems. The direct consequence of product customization on production is evidenced by an exponentially increased number of process variants, such as diverse machines, tools, fixtures, setups, cycle times and labors. In the production of mass customization a very important issue is changeovers times. In spite of applying modern management techniques, setup time still plays an important part in the production cycle time. The case study includes the manufacture of roller shutters. This paper presents a method of cost calculation taking into account the manufacturing roller shutters in organizational similar groups. The main purpose of this method is to identify range of costs of elements. The method was validated in the conditions of best practice production for high-variety production.

W artykule przedstawiono wybrane zagadnienia zarządzania produkcją związane z dostosowaniem wyrobów do potrzeb klienta. Zjawisko kastomizacji produkcji prowadzi do wzrostu różnorodności wyrobów finalnych. Metodę poddano weryfikacji w warunkach produkcji wielowariantowej w rzeczywistych warunkach produkcyjnych.

In contrast to the traditional manufacturing system, where the basic features are low product variety and mass production, recent manufacturing environment is characterized by shorter product life cycles, constantly diminishing batch sizes while the variety of product types and models continues to increase. In high-variety manufacturing , in spite of applying modern management techniques, setup time still plays an important part in the production cycle time. Product development teams use many methods and tools for design, test, and manufacture a new or improved product. Design for manufacturing methodologies are used to improve a product's manufacturability. For high-variety production the cumulative amount of setup time results from the number of changeovers. To shorten the production time and therefore cost the methods of group technology (GT) are used. This paper presents a method of increasing the manufacturability of elements produced in GT. The method was validated in the conditions of best practice production for high-variety production.

According to requirements of the market a great number of small companies are forced to offer a wide variety of products and to frequently respond to the market with customized solutions. At the same time, the fast delivery of products is often key to winning orders. Recent developments in Information Technology have made product family manufacturing available for small companies. It is made possible by applying a class of software tools called product configurations which can be integrated with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. For configurable products, due to the number of options for implementation, the process of data preparation requires special care so that not to be too time-consuming and likely to be realized in production practice. This article presents problem of product identification, customizable product modeling, user interface issues, the algorithmic generating of bill of materials and routing processes based on the options specified by the B2B system users and data flow in the operational management. The decision framework of product family design and development along the entire spectrum of product realization according to the concept of design domains. Product family decision-making involves a series of "what how" mappings between these domains. Managing product families consisting of a large set of product variants as configurable products requires defining a configuration model. The concepts and modeling guidelines for them were validated with success in SME for roller shutters. Information system support is necessary for modeling products, particularly for a configuration available on the Internet for B2B partners. In addition to having a good understanding of the product, a designer should be familiar with object oriented modeling. The main benefit there would be improving communication within the product development team and to other departments in the company, e.g. sales. The benefits also include the use of additional functions provided by the knowledge database, structure and the related design constraints during the product development. The method was validated in the conditions of best practice production for unit and small batch production.

This observation inspired the author to prepare a method of setup time reduction through the appropriate arrangement of tasks in the operational production plan. The appropriate arrangement of tasks means considering the similarity of parts from the point of view of operation carried out. The similarity of parts facilitates setup time reduction, which translates into smaller lot sizes, reduced in-process inventories, shorter lead time and higher throughput. The presented method is one of the elements of a computer aided management system for high-variety production. The method was validated in the conditions of best practice for unit and small batch production.

A comparative analysis of the influence on the natural environment of two different methods of dealing with municipal waste has been carried out in this work. The research has been based on the data coming from three waste dumpsites: two of them are still operating in Poland and the third one located in Breitenau, Austria is already closed, as well as from the municipal waste incineration plant in Vienna, Austria. The analysis was carried out with the application of the BAT method, which is preferred by the European Union, and with the consideration of the technical, economic and ecological criteria. The obtained results indicate that, as far as the analyzed area is concerned, thermal utilization is a more beneficial method than waste dumping in landfill sites.

Wymagania współczesnego rynku przedsiębiorstwa determinują wytwarzanie wielowariantowych wyrobów dostosowanych do potrzeb użytkownika. W produkcji wielowariantowych produktów, pomimo zastosowania nowoczesnych metod zmniejszania czasu przezbrojenia, nadal odgrywa on znaczną rolę w cyklu produkcji. Metodę sprawdzono w praktyce produkcyjnej małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw.

In the process of unit and small batch production a very important aspect is the amount of time from production setup to availability to the customer. In spite of applying modern management techniques, setup time still plays an important part in the production cycle time. In the examined companies the relationship between changeover time to processing time was significant. The above research inspired the author to prepare a method of setup time reduction through the appropriate arrangement of tasks in the operational production plan. The appropriate arrangement meant considering the similarity of parts from the point of view of carried out operation. The similarity of parts facilitates setup time reduction, which translate into smaller lot sizes, reduced in-process inventories, shorter lead time and higher throughput. The manufacturing industry has evolved over the past several decades in response to changing customer needs. Customers have become more demanding and want products that can meet their specific individual requirements. The standard products previously produced in large batches are not sufficient to meet this variety demanded. Given the increased competition, both locally and globally, companies must also now respond faster to get and keep customers. Enterprises were forced to unit and small-batch production. Currently, advanced planning systems are coming into use, however their cost exceeds the possibilities of small and medium enterprises and algorithms used often require great customization to industries' needs and conditions of unit and small-batch production. The paper has been drawn on the basis of research on overloads of moving bottlenecks in conditions of unit and small batch production in real conditions having a big number of resources and tasks. The methods used so far are not capable of finding the global optimum of such big data ranges. The author took on building a heuristic algorithm, which could find solution good enough and based on TOC (Theory of Constraints) assumptions and verification of assumptions using tests in real production systems. The above method found application to the industrial scale, as extension of the ERP class system.

Uwarunkowania współczesnych przedsiębiorstw wymagają dostosowywania produkcji wyrobów do ciągle zmieniających się wymagań klienta. Powoduje to konieczność produkcji jednostkowej i małoseryjnej wyrobów wariantowych w wielu opcjach wykonania. Poniżej podano przykład zastosowania metody do optymalizacji pracy wycinarki laserowej.

Determinant of contemporary enterprises requires adapting the production of products for still changing requirements of the customer The production planning in most companies in small and medium enterprises (SME) consists of two-stage hierarchy, medium term planning and detailed scheduling. A necessity of the individual and small-batch production causes it of variant products in many options of the workmanship. The production of products in Polish enterprisers takes place on universal machines mainly in the SME's. Medium term planning is mostly carried out by MRPII or ERP software. The detailed scheduling level activities in the plans are performed by advanced planning software. This software in individual and small-batch conditions of production focuses on moving bottlenecks. Using techniques of classification and grouping into organizationally similar groups setup times were reduced. For the reduction of bottlenecks data of the ERP system were used. Assumptions were validated wilh researches in real enterprises. The examples of using the above method to the optimization of the laser cutter's tasks were given.
