Content available remote A memory model for emotional decision-making agent in a game

Virtual characters are an important part of many modern computer games. This paper describes a graph-based memory system designed for artificial agents that also simulate simple emotions. The system was tested using virtual simulation environment and it showed many new and desirable AI behaviours. These behaviours include simple preferences, reactions based on bot’s opinion of a stimuli or improvement of bot’s ability to find objects to interact with.

Single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were equipped with aryl residues by chemical reactions. These insoluble materials were used to substitute classical soluble mediators, which help to transfer electrical charge between the conducting electrode and the redox active center of enzyme molecules. The effect of different aryl residues on the efficiency of the catalytic reduction of dioxygen in the presence of laccase was systematically studied using voltammetry and measuring the power output of a biofuel cell.

Przedstawiono bezprzewodową sieć sensorową, pobierającą i przekazującą informacje z czujników temperatury i oświetlenia sterowanych głosem. Funkcjonalność systemu może zostać wykorzystana do sterowania urządzeniami automatyki domowej. System składa się z trzech zasadniczych elementów: koordynatora sieci ZigBee, urządzenia końcowego (pomiarowego) wyposażonego w czujniki światła i temperatury oraz komputera PC. Użytkownik może zarządzać systemem za pomocą trzech interfejsów: komend głosowych rejestrowanych przez mikrofon, wyświetlacza TFT z panelem dotykowym oraz komputera PC z opracowanym oprogramowaniem. W koordynatorze zastosowano uproszczony algorytm rozpoznawania izolowanych słów przy pomocy współczynników LPC (Linear Predictive Coding). System został skonstruowany na popularnych mikrokontrolerach firmy STM z nowoczesnym mikroprocesorem ARM Cortex-M3.

Wireless sensor network collecting and transferring information from temperature and lighting sensors controlled by means of operator’s voice has been presented. Functionality of the system can be applied for controlling of home automatic devices. The system consists of three main parts: ZigBee network coordinator, measuring terminals equipped in light and temperature sensors and computer PC. A user can manage the system by means of three interfaces: voice commands registered by the microphone, TFT display with touch panel and computer PC with elaborated software. In the coordinator the simplified algorithm of isolated words recognition by means of the LPC (Linear Predictive Coding) coefficients was applied. The system was realized using popular microcontrollers produced by STM with the modern microprocessor ARM Cortex-M3.

The aim of this study was designing of nanostructured bioelectrodes and assembling them into a biofuel cell with no separating membrane. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) chemically connected with residues of typical mediators, i.e. ferrocene (Fc) and 2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline)-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) deposited on glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) were found useful as mediators for the enzyme catalyzed electrode processes. The electrodes were in turn covered with glucose oxidase from Aspergillus niger AM-11 and laccase from Cerrena unicolor C-139, respectively, incorporated in a liquid-crystalline matrix. The nanostructured electrode coating with the cubic phase film containing enzymes acted as the catalytic surface for the enzymatic reactions that is oxidation of glucose at anode and reduction of oxygen at cathode. For the system with mediators anchored to CNTs the catalysis was almost ten times more efficient than on bare GCE electrodes: catalytic current of glucose oxidation was 1 mAcm-2 and oxygen reduction current exceeded 0.6 mAcm-2. The open circuit voltage of the biofuel cell was 0.43 V. Application of the carbon nanotubes increased maximum power output of the constructed biofuel cell to 100 \miWcm-2 without stirring the solution. It is ca. 100 times more efficient than using the same bioelectrodes without nanotubes on the electrode surface.

Basidiomecetes Phlebia radiata and Panus tigrinus have been suggested as good producers of yellow laccase. Some cultural and environmental factors influencing the enzymatic activity in shaken flasks and aerated fermenter cultures were evaluated to improve the process yield. Application of some cultural conditions as well as the use of a solid-state tube hioreactor made it possible to obtain 7989 nkat/1 laccase from Panus tigrinus and 3032 nkat/1 laccase from Phlebia radiata in six days.
